Pats favored by 5 vs the Dolphins

Cheesy headline of the day: "Celtics aren't the only team worried about the Miami heat."

From listening to Hart, Perillo, and half the posters here at PatsFan, I really don't see how the New England Patriots can win a game this year. Sure sounds like yet another 0-16 season here in Mudville....

I've heard nothing even remotely close to what you claim, from any of those you mentioned.

Deeply concerned about a really nice DLine catching our transitioning OLine at just the right time... pretty much the formula for neutralizing our greatest advantage, namely QB play.

Fortunately, our DL seems pretty talented at the starting positions and Miami is in an even bigger transition, with all 5 positions boasting a new starter.

The Patriots should win this.

This Miami offense doesn't worry me. Their OL is questionable, QB is meh. WRs (outside of Wallace) are not good. Their RBs are okay but we will shut down that run.

Honestly if our D outscores their O it would not surprise me. That said our O could have a few issues and keep it from being a run away win. I'd guess 24-13

Lay the points. First week of any NFL season is always high scoring and Miami doesn't have the horses to hang in a shoot out

WRs (outside of Wallace)

Wallace is overrated. He was shut down in both games by Arrington and Cole outside of that TD that Gregory whiffed on.

The Phins are making the Pats wear the dark blue jerseys. It will be hot. I can't remember the last time the Phins didn't give the Pats a tough game. Even in the opener a few years ago, that game was close at the half, Miami may have even been ahead. The real difference is the Gronk, a healthy Gronk makes the Pats a very tough team to face.

I'd lay the points and go with the Pats.

According to Hart and Perillo (relentlessly negative post-game podcast):

The oline is a question mark
The dline is a question mark
The linebackers are a question mark
The secondary is a question mark
The RBs are a question mark
The WR are a question mark

Sounds bad, huh?

There's an old saying in the world of sportsbetting, or at least there was in my household growing up---"never lay more than a FG on the road."

While giving 5, which will likely be up to 6 by Sunday, may seem like an easy bet to some, it will be a game that I'm staying away from due to the fact that there will be other games with better odds of winning in my opinion. I'll be enjoying the Pats game this Sunday due to my love of the team.

Dolphins fans think that their new uptempo offense will help them. They think that it is good to play fast, essentially lengthen the game, giving Tom Brady more possessions.

Yes, SERIOUSLY.

They've got a solid set of pass catchers, and a decent defense (d-line stands out most)

I expect this to be one of the better teams the Dolphins have had in years

I still think we'll win, but I'm a little nervous cause I'll be betting

No, it sound like pretty much every team analysis in the NFL. There are settled areas and there are question marks or problems.

The only thing that worries me about this game is how unconcerned I am. I have a really hard time seeing the Pats failing to cover, let alone losing.

Five points sounds about right. Any line above three points (a FG) or four points (a TD minus a FG) is a lot. Now figure that the home team typically gets three points; a team being favored by five on the road is not common at all.

I could see a big spread like this if the opponent was a team coming off a 3-13 season, but the Dolphins did go 8-8 last year. To me it wouldn't make sense for the line to be any higher than it is.

Weird stuff often happens week 1. I'll be nervous for this one.

Actually I'm nervous for all of them.

I will be at work so it will take away some nerves....may have to drink at work..that's ok right? :)

So is anyone laying those points?

Pretty sure that's covering just about everything except the QB.

I'm guessing that there will be lots of posters here who lay the points on the road. Like I said, I think there are other matchups that provide better value--just my opinion.

That's why they call it "gambling," I suppose ;)

Let's hope the Pats win by 28.
