J.J. Watt is getting paid

Revis looking at 17-18 mil a year now

Revis is going to get top corner money not be the highest paid defensive player in the league. Much as I want Revis here if being the highest paid defender is the benchmark then they would have to pass. They need to be creative and pay him top CB money but not a 100 million etc...., I am thinking more like 50-60 million for 4 with 35-40 guaranteed.

This shouldn't set the market for Jones. Jones is on his way to becoming a great player but Watt is significantly better than Jones at this point. That may change in the near future but Jones will need to raise his level of consistent excellence a rung or two to compete with Watt.

Agree. I love Jones but he not accomplished anything on the level of Watt and shouldn't be paid as if he has. If he plays at a first team all pro level and wins DPOY then they can start looking at a big big deal but right now he's just a pro bowler not a future Hall of Famer. No way would the Patriots give him this kind of deal given his production to date.

I'm more inclined to say he's on roids more so than he isn't.

But then again, I think almost all of these guys are on some type of PED. There's just no way human beings can be that fast, that big, and heal from injuries that quick naturally.

That said, it's a level playing field so I don't care.

So prove it, then. Last I heard, the NFL tests for these substances during the season. If you're going to accuse the guy of being on 'roids, then the burden of proof is on you.

Do you think he got that big just by lifting and eating clean? Perhaps a protein shake or two mixed in there :D

How prevalent do you think PEDs are in the NFL?

He's a monster but they still picked #1. But i guess Watt's the kind of talent you can't let go.

There are a ton of reasons why they went 2-14, and Watt has nothing to do with any of them.

All I know is of the players who get suspended for violating policy. This has... what.... to do, exactly, with whether or not Watt is on the 'roids? Again, if you believe he is on them, proof is necessary. As far as I know, Watt has never been put into the system for violating the substance abuse policy.

My theory on Watts has got to do more with my philosophical theory that majority of the NFL, in some way or another, use some kind of PED.

NFL still does not test for HGH. Lance Armstrong passed drug test after drug test. There are ways to take PEDs and still past drug tests.

Some of these clowns even use a whizzinator.

I hope Belichick will because most likely it will take close to what Watt received to retain Chandler Jones.

lol no.

My point being about the amount of money he is making. No way Brady leads a team to a #1 pick.

EDIT: Response to BradyFTW!

How the hell do i quote nowadays?

My pet theory is that a high enough percentage of players juice that, even in a world where nobody used PEDs, the same exact guys would dominate.

I meant that in the opposite direction take out the importance of each position. We always rate QBs best in the NFL because their position is more important but if you take that out of the equation and just focus on how good a player is compared to his peers at the same position than I think Watt represents the largest difference in talent between himself and his peers.

While that is a logical approach as far as player valuation, one must keep in mind that his team went 2-14 last season, which should make you think twice about that logic.

The goal of every team is presumably to win as many games as possible and get to the superbowl with the best chance of winning it.

With that in mind, wouldn't you spend the most on the positions that most affect the game?

QB is unquestionably at the top of that list.

With that in mind, I just don't see BB ever spending that much money on a DE, even if his name is JJ Watts.

But this is all theory. That's the key word in your post. The OP I replied to was talking as if it's a sure thing that Watt is on 'roids. He was very specific about that. There isn't any proof of that. This sort of lazy logic is no different than haters tossing out Spygate to discuss the post-2004 Patriots.

I didn't see the post you replied to to be honest. I saw your post and replied to it.

Again, just because they don't test for HGH, doesn't mean it's not being used. That is lazy and naive thinking on your part.

For sure wether you account for position importance or not winning should be a part of the equation. Watt has been a part of some pretty good Texans teams that obviously faltered in the playoffs and I am not going to hold one 2-14 season against him but if he were to play most of his career on losing teams and never get a SB that would certainly effect my opinion of him.

In the end you cant ignore postional importance so QBs will almost always be the best players in the league but a guy like Watt comes as close to getting into the Brady/Manning realm than any other non-QB in the league and really the only other player I can think of doing this in recent memory was the Revis of 3-4 years ago.

Never said that. What I'm wondering is what the NFL's failure to test for HGH has to do with a definitive statement that Watt takes 'roids.

Am I the only one who thinks Watt comes off like a d. bag with his whole chest thumping schtick? I think his attitude may be a big reason that the Texans were 2-14 last year. Excellent player, but... teams with players who think they are god's gift to the gridiron usually don't do well...

That's an odd thing to say. Do you legitimately believe Watt is on 'roids?

Roids. HGH. Whatever. The dude is juiced up. No question. The idea that NFL players are clean is a charming fairytale.

Was it the rippling muscles in his forehead that gave it away?
