Congrats to J.J Watt!

Makes me wonder how the hell we would have approached an extension if we would have moved up to snatch him. Not sure if we would have given out a contract like that..

He deserves it.

He's the best defensive player in the NFL.
This may seem to be a strange comment but I view J.J. Watt as the defensive version of Rob Gronkowski. It seems to me that both are, at times, unstoppable.

Gronk commands triple teams and I've seen entire sides of the OL scheme against Watt. A fair talent that deserves and has earned his salary.

He's only 24. Clean history and high character. Hard worker. There's no reason for his play to fall off. If anything, it might get better with Clowney on the same Dline.

This is the type of player GM's don't mind paying because their isn't a huge risk to go along with it. He's the complete opposite of Albert Haynesworth.

Watt, like Revis is worth the money. The dude is just a beast. If he was here, no way BB would let him test the market...

In 2012, wasn't his stat line something like 20 sacks, and 15 batted down balls? Just think about all those plays he's killed.

Yup.

Not just a Pro Bowler or All-Pro.

He's All-Galaxy. Meaning future Hall of Famer and potentially one of the best ever to play his position.

Sure, BOB can shuck out 100 mil like it's halloween candy and all we could squeeze out of him was a 2016 late round conditional for the next superstar QB.

Revis looking at 17-18 mil a year now

I wouldn't have thought so. Revis is best utilized at CB. Watt can play as a 4-3 DT/DE, a 34 DE and I hazard a thought that you could bulk him up to 310 and play him as an undersized DT in the 34.

Frankly, the guy is a freak. That's not to say Revis isn't a freak but I'm not sure he would be as effective playing Safety as he is playing Corner. 15-16 million sounds reasonable.

I wish I was a football player.
54 baseball players have/had contracts of $100 mill or more
8 baseball players have contracts of $200 mill or more
All 100% guaranteed.
Of course baseball players (position players) do play more each year .......
486 hours vs 16 hours :)

Looking at Watt's contract and rounding to $1 mill per game....
Actual game time is 11 minutes per game so lets round defensive snaps to 5 minutes per game....Watt is earning $200k per minute

Baseball offers approximately 18 minutes of action each game, so each batter gets 1 minute of prime time action per game.
A position player earning $16.2 mill per year makes $100k per game =$100k per minute....only half Watt's salary per minute.

Watt wins...except for the brain scrambling and inevitable physical breakdown

he deserves, highly talented guy and very professional, I remember some fine words of Aaron Rodgers when Urlacher called a career, saying that playing against him you wouldn't expect cheap shots, I see the same things on Watt.

Congratulations to JJ. Not seen a defensive player so dominant since Big Sey in his prime and really, he's even better than the big guy.

The next time you get a chance to watch the Texans, do - and just focus on him. You'll be absolutely amazed by how much carnage he causes on EVERY snap.

I hope Belichick will because most likely it will take close to what Watt received to retain Chandler Jones.
