@fnordcircle

@DougKyedNESN: Jake Bequette still has a locker intact with the Patriots, as well.

@DougKyedNESN: DE Jake Bequette signed to the Patriots' practice squad.

To state the obvious, the fact that a player has got through to the Patriots Practice Squad doesn't mean he's not going to play for another team -- he can be claimed at any time.
He can but we can also "match" the promotion if the player wants to stay here and we can create a spot. That happened with Siliga last year, Denver was going to sign him from our PS and we matched it by promoting him. Unless the player wants to leave we have an unoffical chance to match it.

The legend of Jake continues. Like Troy Brown this future Pats HOF player has travelled the long, winding path to greatness!

Jake Bequette passes through locker room. Practice squad.

Goddanm it Bill, learn to give up on somethings

To summarize thus far....

James Christensen ‏@NEPatriotsDraft 1m
Skinner, Boyce, Martin, Davis, Gray, Bethel-Thompson, Swanson, Bequette... that makes eight players so far. 10 possible.

I would expect Bruce Gaston to be one of them in a few days.

We could do worse on the practice squad than Bequette, Any word on Finch or Seastrunk?
Stephen Hill and or Worthy back in the fold would be easy.

Wouldn't we have to release someone to place Hughlett on the 53?
EDIT:
Doug Kyed ‏@DougKyedNESN 29s
Patriots practice squad: Ja'Gared, Kanorris Davis, Dax Swanson, Bethel-Thompson, Jonas Gray, Martin, Bequette, Boyce, Skinner, Hughlett.

Okay PS. So no LS on 53.

Bequette ! Woooooo. He either (1) has Intel re Kraft (2) is the greatest player they've ever seen on the practice field.

So J. Thomas, Halapio, and Gallon didn't make it to the 53 + 10.

I have to say at this point what are they expecting to see out of Bequette? I know he is good on the practice field but he hasn't contributed anything on the game field. I just think that there are other DE out there who would be better for the PS. They must absolutely love him on practice field.

So J. Thomas, Halapio, and Gallon didn't make it to the 53 + 10.

Thomas was picked up by Dallas, and Gallon reportedly didn't want to sign with the Pats' PS. But Halapio went from a 6th round "steal" to not even making it to the PS pretty quickly.

So J. Thomas, Halapio, and Gallon didn't make it to the 53 + 10.

Thomas made Dallas roster I believe. But good point on the others. Granted they had a lot of draft picks, but not a great sign to have cut a third of your draft class.

Also, most of their high priority UDFA's (in terms of guaranteed $$) didn't make the team either (Houston, Watson, Jones, Morris, Finch).

So from what I am reading on twitter from various sources, the Patriots' Practice Squad currently consists of:

  • LB Ja'Gared Davis
  • RB Jonas Gray
  • QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson
  • DB Dax Swanson
  • WR Josh Boyce
  • DE Jake Bequette
  • LB Deontae Skinner
  • OL Chris Martin
  • S Kanorris Davis
  • LS Charley Hughlett

To state the obvious, the fact that a player has got through to the Patriots Practice Squad doesn't mean he's not going to play for another team -- he can be claimed at any time.

Of course, he won't have the experience in the other club's system but that can cut both ways. ("Hey kid, welcome on board. We hope you're here for a long time. But, in the meantime, you've been with the Patriots and we're playing them in two weeks. What can you do to help us win?")

As I noted earlier in the thread, teams cannot "claim" players off practice squads the way they do off waivers. In other words, the JEST can't just suddenly help themselves to Daxton Swanson. They can, however, (try to) convince him to sign a contract to be on their 53-man roster. NFL rules prohibit teams from doing that in certain cases (e.g., you cannot sign a player off the PS of the next team you're going to play), and require that a player promoted from an opponent's PS must be paid for a minimum of three weeks.
