Report: Ryan Mallett Traded to Houston for late pick

Agreed. We've seen other players go to other systems and thrive. Only time will tell. In the meantime, I think we're going with Garoppolo myself as the backup, but we'll see.

I don't see the reasoning in bringing in a vet if they don't know the system, but that's just my opinion.

As I said in the next post, I'm not saying he won't be the backup, just that he won't be the only other QB on the roster, like the Brady Huard situation.

BB quote on the backup in 2001. Just weeks later, Brady advances over Huard, while Huard stays as his backup. Had Bledsoe not got hurt, Huard would likely have been the backup for the year.
Damon Huard, meanwhile, has been the unquestioned No. 2 quarterback of the Patriots for about a month. There's a reason why, Patriots' coach Bill Belichick said.

"Damon has shown that he can go and win in the National Football League," Belichick said. "Tom (Brady) and Michael (Bishop) haven't had that opportunity, but they haven't put themselves at that level yet. To me, that's what separates Damon from the other guys."

DAMN…………..

Texans should have thrown in a bag a footballs, at least………. Fark BB, getting a conditional pick on someone that was going to be taken out with the trash next week.

ANOTHER BUST move by BB and krafty....absolutely HORRIFYING.....

Ugh no player in return there goes my dream of Brooks Reed on the pats.[/QUOTE]

I have 2 thoughts on this......

1. Good for Mallett. He was a model citizen while he was here. Never complained, even though he probably hoped to be drafted before the garbage that was at QB in the 1st rd. of that draft. He's going to a good situation now and has a chance to start and play for a better 2nd contract.

2. To those that are overreacting to the compensation.... What comp did the Vikings, Titans and Jaguars get for their 1st rd. blunders (Ponder, Locker and Gabbert, respectively) that year? Bet their fans would have much rather spent a 3rd and got back a 7th all the while watching TB12 have 3 great years that saw 3 trips to the AFCCG & 1 SB appearance, than getting to watch their teams spend a high 1st, watch the team suck for 3 years, and then get ZERO in return.

I am only left with 1 burning question.... If they only got a 2016 conditional 7th rd. pick from Houston..... What the hell were the offers from the Cowboys and Bills?!?!?! A terrible towel and a kick in the nuts?

Dude there are a ton of good posters here. 100% agree.

I don't know why you are taking issue with me saying that there was a ton of argument over Mallett's value on this board and that in the end most of us were wrong. You can go through the thread history if you want.

I think you are thinking i'm being a little more critical than I am being. Just saying that there was the "no one want him he's a bum" crowd and the "trade him for Andre Johnson" crowd and the reality was a 7th maybe 6th rounder for him.
I think the issue is you are considering the vocal minority who have outrageous takes in opposite directions as being "90% of everyone here".
When a topic is discussed ad naseum by a minority of poseurs that doesn't make it the position of most if the posters.
I think the majority of the posters on this board saw little grade value in mallet for obvious reasons. You are focused on the squeaky wheel.

Jerry Jones offered a ride on the "girls gone wild" bus.

They already did what? Has the regular season started?

There are new practice squad rules. You can definitely have a practice squad player with a couple years experience. Jake Bequette, for instance can be on the squad and he's been here forever.

When you use the word "vet" I imagine someone who's had more than just a few years of experience, hence the 'vested player' comment.

This kind of thinking misses a lot of points. Mallett did his job here - he backed up Brady and saved the Pats 3-4 million a year against the cap. The Bills just had to lay out $5 million to Kyle Orton to go in and back up EJ. That's $5 million against their cap for a back up QB they hope doesn't have to play a snap.
According to that logic, they could have drafted me and it would have been a good pick. I can carry a clipboard with the best of 'em.

Well, someone going into their third season could be a vet. He'd be a lot more comfortable than a rookie.

Of course that would be the alternative option to having another qb on the roster.

Watch BB pick off Chris Simms from the Rats cuts before they get a chance to stash him on the PS.

RM had to be at practice every day getting lots of reps and making sure he called all the plays TB would the same way, throwing the same type of balls, and running the O the same way so it did not miss a beat.

unless the back-up QB is Peyton Manning, who the hell cares who our back up is? Really...GOAT GOAT goes down and the season is over.

I take it you aren't on Belichick's staff.

I'd rather have major Applewhite.

I disagree. Simms would be worth it on intel alone. That and the sure to follow People Magazine duel of the young QB heartthrobs Gropp/Simms would be like dropping ten thousand pounds of eggs on Toesucker's stupid face.

Think Woodhead Redux.

I lived in Austin during that period. Major applewhite was the best field general I ever saw. No size, no strength, average to good arm, but he mopped up after Simms gave away game after game with interceptions and led Bradyesque drive after drive.

Simms?

Uh...LOVE the Hustler reference but you DO realize he's wrong about Fast Eddie in the end ,right?
