2014 Practice Squad Thread

I see no reason to shop Wilfork. We need more than 1 NT/DT on this team anyway and will not find one better than Wilfork likely. Currently IMO he looks like he will play up to his contract and with 14M in cap space we don't need to free up more when we have a player we like.

Roy Finch returns home after not even being asked to the practice squad? C'mon, Bill. Clearly he's our top notch secret weapon for the future. ;)

Read this as "Bethel Johnson" and my eyes immediately turned into Reche Caldwell. O_O

His full name is McLeod John Baltazar Bethel-Thompson.

Looks like there's a new law firm in town!

As I expected when they let Grossman go, the Browns got Shaw to their PS. Too bad. Would have vastly preferred him to Bethel-.

When does the waiver period end and is there any word on Boyce, Swason and Halapio? I'd like to keep those three around...

They could have been added all day today, had Belichick wanted to.

Me too but I'm guessing BB didn't want another rookie. Brady's busy with the game plan this gives JG a non rookie PS eligible QB to talk to.

No way in hell that Wilfork is being shopped in my opinion. He proved himself by coming back and working hard in the offseason, took a restructured deal, and reportedly is looking as good as he has in years.
I would not put anything beyond Belichick. Wilfork has surprised everyone by his amazing recovery. He will
probably earn enough playing time to earn all his money. This is not what Belichick had in mind. If there is any cap benefit in cutting Wilfork, BB will do it now.

I hear what you're saying, but I don't think this particular year is the right time to leave the cupboard quite that bare.

If we're able to load up in the draft + maybe a middle tiered free agent in the spring, then I could see the odds being raised a bit. Either way, I still don't believe that Wilfork is gone this year or next myself.

Any guess as to why a handful of teams like NE tend to wait before making too many additions to their PS, @ctpatsfan77 ?

Oh, and I think that Michael Sam is pretty much a lock to make the STL practice squad tomorrow, for whatever it's worth.

I can't think of a good reason to delay signing a PS player, since it just gives other teams more time to come in and sweet talk them away. (Just a reminder for newer folk: you cannot "claim" someone for your own practice squad; they have to sign willingly. Similarly, you cannot "claim" a player currently signed to another team's practice squad, but you can sign them onto your 53-man roster if they're willing.)

Honestly, the only good reason I can think of for having to wait is if there's a "bidding war" (e.g., 2+ teams wanting to sign a player, and they're deciding how much more to offer).
