I would have kept Beauharnais and cut Mallet over a conditional 7th round pick for keeping Mallet for a day

Officially a bust of a third round pick. At least they got more for this 3rd rounder than Kevin O'Connell.

Realistically, what could they have gotten as a comp pick, if they held onto him and let him walk in FA?

On a scale of 1 to 100, the value of return is a 1. The Pats could not have received a lower return. What were the other team's offering....UPS fare to ship out Mallett's gear after his release?

So how long does it take for Mallett to get the starting job over Fitzpatrick? I don't believe it will take him all that long to absorb O'Brien's playbook. He basically already knows the language.

Hardly, a solid back up QB for 3 years and a conditional 7th round pick in return.

A lot of 3rd round picks are out of the league in 2/3 years, thats a bust for a 3rd round pick.

I don't think Mallett could have taken over for the Pats but I bet he is starting in Houston in week 2 or three. Houston wanted him all a long anyway.
