6th rounder.... yuck

you got to be kidding me just a 6th rounder.
Ugh no player in return there goes my dream of Brooks Reed on the pats.

I hate this trade! The compensation may make us better in a year or two, but this team is worse today than it was yesterday. With only a few more years left of Brady, the Pats need to maximize their...... Oh screw it. So long Ryan. Hopefully the return is worth something.

With our record for late round picks in the last draft, the sixth rounders just means we're cutting someone next year rather than Mallett this year. But in the meantime we'll spend the year convinced we can find the next Dennard. It's nice for us draftniks, our mocks get a little longer :)

I was hoping for a 4th but I think freeing up that roster spot is more important than holding on to him and hoping for a better compensation pick a year later.

This was what we call a very low stakes game of chicken.

I bet Rams fans are angry(er)

Confirmed the #texans have traded for Ryan Mallett. They get a 6th round pick.

Wording is a little odd there, Pats get a 6th round pick? If they actually turned down 1-2 round offers earlier this offseason, then this deal looks awful in comparison, but more because those offers were crazy. This is more in line with his actual worth as a guy in the last year of his rookie deal who hasn't played a meaningful NFL snap.

Return aside, I'm just glad the situation is resolved for now and I'm mildly intrigued to see how Mallett will in Houston. This isn't ideal for the Texans; with Mallett hitting FA this offseason, I'm sure they would prefer to have him start all 16 games to have a better idea of what they have before committing to him long term. Can't imagine he'll be ready that soon though, will probably have to sit at least a few weeks to get up to speed on the playbook and receivers.

Calm down people. It's a sixth rounder plus a roster spot for a long snapper...or a DT (Kelcey Quarles)

If they were talking with Dallas & Buffalo too, a 6th is going to be the minimum New England see.

There's probably conditional stuff if the stuff about the other 2 teams was true.

Florio's snarky comment today about the "genius" BB obviously drove NE to trade the the "Razorback Redneck"
BB: "You want genius....I'll give you genius"

Ridiculous trade. Why even bother ? I rather keep him for a year as insurance and get nothing next year. Dumb, worthless trade. So we basically traded Mallett for Aiken (or whatever long snapper, Mallett was basically traded to open up a roster spot) and a 6th round pick.

Sounds like you think the 6th round is the "new 2nd" round. :p
