What Player Cut By Other Teams Would You Add To The Pats 53?

I like the LB Smallwood.

Sorry, but I simply cannot believe that any man burdened with the name "SmallWood" can possibly not be suffering from a crushing Inferiority Complex that will prove fatal When It Really Matters, If You Know What I'm Saying And I Think You Do. Frankly, I'm rather amazed that'is ForeFathers have found the strength, as it were, to sustain the family name for as long ~ heh ~ as they have.

My preference, only a preference really like the him.. Ridley has had 8 fumbles in the same period. Something about UDFA's who work hard...

BJGE had 0 fumbles when he was here..
Personally, it does not surprise me that Green-Ellis does not have the fumbles that Ridley or other backs do, he runs straight ahead, into the line of scrimmage, no cuts, no moves, just 2 hands on the ball into the open area. When you are trying to make moves, break tackles, cutting back, your ability to control the ball is compromised a lot more than, if you are just going straight ahead.

Not doing well on the Bengals would not be a reason for me to pass on a player.

Especially when said player was decent, and perfect with ball protection, before going to Cincinnati. BJGE had 510 carries for 2064 yds, for a 4.0 ypc with us. Lots of players do better away from the Bungles, and some who did well there do much worse after leaving.

First I'd make sure it was not Cincinnati's dumpster fire of a situation and not BJGE skills falling off a cliff that caused his downfall.
Green-Ellis is 29 years old, he entered the NFL with below average athletic ability for a NFL RB, which he was able to overcome in his younger years, now that he has aged and his athletic ability has diminished even more it is unlikely he will have much success. Bolden has 545 yards and a 4.9 average with 0 fumbles in that last 2 seasons, he is a younger and better option as are #4 RB.

If I remember correctly BJGE never fumbled in high school or college... so he developed some pretty ball protection habits.. without regard, I liked him and what he brought to this team.

I think if Ridley fumbles like he did last year, he is gone.. does not seem to be lot of tolerance for "error repeaters". IMO BJGE would be a good back up...

There have been many RBs I have liked between the ages of 23-27 but very few that I liked at age 29 or older.

It is not right or wrong, it is an opinion... I like BJGE and what he brought to this team, he may be too old..

I'm for getting Champ in here and taking a look at him playing safety. He said he's willing and if he's got some juice, he might make a good one for a year or two rental... no way at corner anymore but he could as an emergency at corner...might be worth kicking the tires at safety.

The thing you overlook is that Buchanan plays a significant role on special teams. Sam is a non factor on special teams. We are not going to sign a rookie depth player who cannot contribute on special teams. There are much better options if you are looking for a player to just rush the QB.

That's why I said Sam isn't a great fit for the Patriots (especially with the move to a 3-4), but he should be for other teams.

I cannot believe the Browns cut Terence West and we did not pounce on him.

Also Adrian Hubbard would be a solid addition.

I like Grice a lot. I think he'd be a nice upgrade over Brandon Bolden as the #4 RB.

I agree but doubt it would happen because Bolden is a special teams starter and I doubt Grice could step in and fill those roles at this point. If he could or Belichick had a way to deal with that issue then Grice would be the better runner imo.

That DoubleDealing ScumBag?? Not on your Life.

One more prime example of how "speed" alone does not translate to a successful NFL career. There are plenty of fast players who come and go every single calendar period.

Baltimore waived MLB Josh Bynes:

As for Bynes, he started six games last season at inside linebacker and played in all but one game as he recorded 45 tackles and three pass deflections. His release comes as the Ravens have restocked their depth chart at inside linebacker with the arrival of first-round rookie C.J. Mosley as the new starter at weak-side inside linebacker.

A former undrafted free agent out of Auburn signed in 2011 by the Ravens, Bynes had four special-teams tackles last season.

Bynes wasn't going to be a starter in 2014. He would have provided some valuable and experienced depth at inside linebacker. He did start six games a year ago and appeared in 15 contests. He made the final tackle on special teams in Baltimore's 34-31 Super Bowl XLVII win over San Francisco.

Undrafted in 2011 out of Auburn, Bynes began his career on Baltimore's practice squad. He eventually earned some starting experience in 2012 when Jameel McClain suffered a spinal cord contusion that prematurely ended his season. Bynes has since been a regular defensive contributor since.

The move is somewhat surprising given the familiarity Bynes brings to the table. But it looks like the Ravens elected to go with the special teams upside that fellow inside linebackers Albert McClellan and Zachary Orr bring to the table.

Bynes has put out enough film that most likely another team should grab him. And if not, Bynes would likely be one Ravens injury away from receiving a phone call to re-join the team.

He might be worth another waiver claim.

Here are a couple of interesting reads on Bynes, BTW:

When Bynes went undrafted in 2011, the Ravens were quick to get him on the phone. The middle linebacker was a three-year starter and defensive captain for an Auburn team that had just won a national championship, and the Ravens thought he could possibly follow in the line of undrafted linebackers like Jameel McClain, Dannell Ellerbe,Albert McClellan and Bart Scott to make the roster.

"He's a guy that we went after hard as an undrafted free agent," Assistant General Manager Eric DeCosta said.

What most attracted the Ravens to Bynes was his mental approach. He had a command of the defense and a strong understanding of the game.

"The thing we saw about Josh right away, A) he is physical, and B) he is really smart
," Head Coach John Harbaugh said. "Josh is a guy who's got a real high football IQ. He gets the game, and that's where I think his strength is."

Sounds like a BB kind of guy: high character, team captain, high effort, high intelligence, good STer, reasonably productive, former UDFA, and Ozzie liked him.

Some old college film on Josh Bynes, FWIW:

2011 Draft Prospects - Josh Bynes, LB | Patriots.com - Media Center - Videos

OTG calls Bynes a "solid solider" in his Ravens 2014 pre-season report. Not much more you can ask for a #5 LB, with ST ability. John Harbaugh has already said he wants Bynes back if possible:

Harbaugh said Ravens will try and bring Bynes back. "He's been a Raven through and through."

I don't think he'll get his wish.
