Is Steve Belichick permitted to do that since he's not a player? are coaches allowed to play on the field with the players when it's the 11 on 11 with the field goal units?

Yes, not suited up of course, but coaches routinely throw passes and such. The funny thing is that Steve's grandfather was like equipment manager with the lions when the coach decided that grandpa belichick was a better fullback than whoever was the lion's fullback, and signed him to a contract.

The Jack of all Trades is Devlin

Just tell him to go to the center of the offensive line - rifle the ball backwards between your legs, then hit the guy in front of you.

How hard is that for a guy from Brown ?

The Bequette era comes to an end

2 things bother me about this team.
1- Safety. We are keeping 5 because we are not sure if anyone besides DMC can play. Not good. I said it before and I will say it again. We should have taken Harrison over Hightower. We could have drafted another LB instead.
2- Trading your LG for a TE because you failed to do anything about in the past 2yrs. Now we are talking about moving are RT to LG because we traded Mankins away. Sure it might have been about money, but unless you sign Revis to a contract extension now, what was the point?

I don't agree with your take especially your second point.

Although I think the Pats were hot on Tim Wright before Mankins came into the picture, the Pats didn't trade Mankins to get Wright. The Bucs need for a guard made the Pats found a logical trade partner to unload Mankins with a player that they really wanted.

If you look at free agency this year and the draft, Wright might have still been the Pats best option for the move/flex TE they coveted. He did have a historic year as a rookie and based on how well he did on Thursday night without a single practice, he has a chance to make an immediate impact this year. If Wright builds on his rookie season and has a typical second year bump, he could be one of the more productive TEs in the league this year and years to come.

As for the money, if the Pats don't use the money this year, it rolls over into next year. So if they extend Revis after the year, that money could still go for it.

If the Pats didn't draft Hightower and drafted Harrison, they would be in the same position at LBer that they are now with safety. So you are trading one hole for another.

OK, so they're at 53 but need a long snapper, plus at least one waiver claim is a given. So I'm thinking 2 more players shouldn't be feeling too comfortable.

Based on numbers, one should be an OL (Barker & Wendell are the most vulnerable, IMO.) Who else?

Righty-ho. At least one of the current OL is likely to be cut for a long snapper. But that's the only obvious fat, so all the other bubble guys should still be nervous.

Absolutely. The "practice squad" idea is a bit of a misnomer, in that coaches can practice. Perhaps there's a role against coaches practicing in full pads or something, but I've never seen reference to it.

My favorite example remains Tampa Bay head coach Gruden playing Rich Gannon on scout team before the Tampa Bay/Oakland Super Bowl.

AJ Edds was cut by the Nyets. He could do some long snapping as well as provide some LB depth?

We are paper thin at lb and de. I don't think it's a given that any of our backups are safe. It wouldn't surprise me if we brought in 3 or 4 cuts at the very least.

Laugh all you want but someone like Sam is probably better than anything we have after Buchanon.

Particularly at lb, it's hard to see how we wouldn't bring in a few hold the fort veterans.

In further response to Patchick's question about who should be nervous, I'd add Hooman, unless he projects to get onto the field before Gronk. He obviously hasn't done much lately, and he wasn't all that great before.

Cant practice until week 5 ?
Yes, I know. I saw week 6 or 7 and now I see you meant "ready" and not just able.

Thought his suspension was longer than 4 games all of a sudden

You may be right, Fencer--but Hooman is our real blocking TE, and is needed in my opinion.

I don't think that Tim Wright is very good in pure blocking situations, but I would guess that he'll be improving over the next year in this regard.

I don't care for Hooman too much, but I think he's needed for the blocking.

Although we do have 10 OL who can do that....

That's about the only alternative, as may explain some of the OL players lining up as TEs; although I tend to think it was simply due to a lack of bodies.

I've basically thought that Hooman was worthless, and now that I'm coming around and respecting his blocking efficiency, people want to cut him ;)

I thought I was the only one who questioned Beauharnais play. I thought he was a studious college LB. But I thought his play indicated that he was too small and a step too slow for the NFL.

BB apparently agrees.

In general I thought the weakest players were any of the LBs other than Mayo, Hightower, Collins, (Ninkovitch), and D Fleming. I thought Chris White was a ST MAVEN, like Larry Izzo, and the equal of Slater & Ebner. But I came to find out that he was inactive for all but 2 games last year.

Maybe BB felt a superior ST LB was more useful than any reserve LB poor at everything. Just how many ST mavens does Bill need? The KO return has been emasculated by the rules, so the only real threat is the PR.

Hooman is, without a doubt, a much better receiver than Nate Solder. I am less convinced, however, that he's a significant upgrade at TE over Nate Solder.

Hooman IS worthless now that we have a TE2 to catch passes.
Should Gronk again go down, Devlin can fill the blocking and occasionally pass catching role that Hoo filled.

See, I'm actually wondering if he's NOT that much better of a receiver than some of the OL alternatives, which may point to your reasoning being correct?

As for Solder working at TE, I'm not crazy about having our franchise LT playing TE, but I suppose football is football.

Either way, whatever is done will make some sense, so we'll have to trust Belichick--as usual.
