Logan Mankins Traded

Some people are just casual Pats fan and haven't the slightest clue how things work. I can understand why it would be so hard to be a fan of a team with this much success though

On the salary cap comment I thought he was joking, but you know what, he was not.

Wow!

Wow! It took me a few days to get through all of this thread, but by gosh I did it.

Some thoughts:

-- I'm sure that BB has a plan to replace Mankins, but that doesn't mean that I have to like it. And it doesn't matter how much justification comes from Belichick's Elves.

-- Logan Mankins was as tough as they get in a business filled with toughness. He was a great teammate and by all accounts a fine gentleman to all the fans who came in contact with him.

-- Big Vince would have been in Logan's shoes but his injury took away his leverage.

-- Since Mankins' strength was run-blocking, it's too bad we went pass-happy in the last two SB losses. Things might have been different if we ran the damn ball more.

-- We all hear about players taking one for the team, but why don't we ever hear about management taking one for the team too?

-- The NFL might be the only place where living up to a signed agreement is looked down upon. If you do it for the Pats you're asking to be traded unless it's a signed agreement that they like.

-- It's funny how Kraft manages to stay clear of any responsibility for losing good team players like Mankins, and for keeping scum like Hernandez.

-- Is it some sort of crime to go over the salary cap?

-- Moves like this one make it harder to be a fan of this team.
Patriots did live up to the agreement. They had the right to cut or trade or pay him. If they didn't live up to it then he should take them to court. He even had a union to fight for him. His salary wasn't guaranteed. That was the agteement.

If they go over the cap then players get cut until they're under the cap. So I guess you could say it's a crime.

And Kraft didn't know hernandez was homicidal or he wouldn't have given him the contract.

I don't play these games. I don't really know how much. I can see them make him a big part of the offense right away to take a month or so. I am not like you and can make definitive proclamations without seeing things playing out a bit.

So according to your prediction of 40 receptions, his production will decline from his rookie year. Lol. Why?

If you honestly feel that way, then go root for Chicago (unceremoniously ditched Urlacher), or San Fran (bye Montana for Young) or GB (see ya Brett for Rodgers) or the Balt Colts (Unitas to SD) or the Jets (Namath to the Rams) or the Colts(Manning to Denver) and on and on and on. Logan Mankin is a freaking GUARD... not a QB, not a left tackle, not a MLB, not a CB...I get it...you're pissed as I was on Tuesday. That's why you're not running the team and I'm not. If you can't get your panties out of a bunch, then you do, as you suggest, need to go root for some other team. Just buyer beware: if you choose one which doesn't make these type of hard decisions, you'll be a fan of a loser. Good luck enjoying that.

A loser should root for a loser.

I believe the Patriots did try to run the ball a little in SB42, but Mankins was busy getting his lunch eaten in the passing AND running games.

What a **** post. But considering you disagreed with me bringing up some very silly points made in a ridiculous article recently written about the Patriots and how its all "spare parts" and "losing when it counts", I should expect this from you.

Your last sentence. I like that!!! In fact why don't you go root for another team? We wont miss you.

Poor little Bruins fan doesn't like that I disagreed with one of his football posts. Too bad kid. I actually disagreed with most of the 50-100 **** posts that you posted in this thread during your back and forth with whomever.

I've been a fan of the Pats longer than you've been alive, and that gives me the right to be critical of them. If you don't like it go cry to someone else.

We? Who else are you speaking for, all the other Belichick Elves?

Dude, this is a fan forum. Your lively hood doesn't depend on whether you're right or wrong here. Don't be scared to be wrong and go with the the minimum of your range. Show a little conviction.

There's no harm in being honest and stating one doesn't know.
Try it someday.

Your age gives you no special rights. Nor wisdom evidently.

I dont think someone as stupid as you who dosent know how the salary cap works should be admitting you have been following the Patriots as long as you claim. It just makes you look more.... stupid.

And the fact you disagreed with me when I pointed out flaws in a terrible article did not bother me. But I see now, why you did it as you are completely out of touch with reality and would side with a crappy writer who wrote a crappy article.

and BTW, the "Whomever" with which I had my "back and forth" with has more knowledge about football then you could ever hope to learn with that feeble mind of yours.

And the only one crying here is you.

Wahhhhhh Its so hard being a fan of this team sometimes.....Whaaaaaaa Whaaaaaaaa

By crime, do you mean besides the whole thing of not being allowed to exceed it for any reason? It's a hard cap. This isn't the NBA. Felger seems to make that mistake a lot too.

So moves designed to make the team better make it harder to be a fan?

When they dump guys like Mankins over money but reward the scumbags, yes, very much yes. How do you know they're better without Mankins but with Wright and a 4th round pick?

And why is it okay for them to come to a player and ask him to redo his signed contract, but when a player does that or even just makes them live up to the agreement they signed, they drop him like a hot potato?

Sorry if it bothers some of you, but when they dump great people like Logan Mankins it makes the Pats koolaid taste just a little bitter.

Seriously.

"""""I have been a pats fan for 50 years....and I still cant figure out that whole darn salary cap thing.""""

"""Cheap Kraft, why wont he go over that darn cap. Cheapskate"""

Talk about clowning yourself.

Point #1: If you're the HIGHEST PAID LG in the NFL you should be dominant in BOTH. Otherwise you are overpaid and taking up valuable cap space.

Point#2: Management can and has. Google "Todd Rucci" and "Max Lane" and "Lessons Learned"

Point#3: It's a free country and there are lots of choices/options.

Awwww, poor baby.

I didn't ask for or claim I have special rights oh wise one.

It looks like the Belichick Elves are jumping around because someone doesn't like the Mankins trade.

Whoa boy, look out.

The Patriots rewarded a young, up and coming, productive Tight End with a contract that was reflective of his current market value. Upon learning of the allegations against Hernandez, the Patriots distanced themselves from him and made a judgement call by releasing him swallowing dead money cap hits. The Patriots traded Mankins because they couldn't find common contractual ground to reflect a decline in his current play. In turn they received a young, athletic Tight End who had a great rookie season, fills a position of need and got the added bonus of a 4th round draft pick.

Business decisions are made in the business environment. Players have no issue holding out for bigger contracts as a tactic much like teams play hardball.

Frankly, you're bullshitting.

Thanks shmessy for at least attempting to be respectful.

Did the Pats sign the deal that made Mankins the highest paid OL? I think they did. If he had accidentally signed a contract that made him underpaid the Pats sure wouldn't go to him and ask him to rework it. Right?

I don't agree with that kind of treatment to guys like Mankins and Wilfork. All they are asking is for the team to live up to the agreement that they signed. If a player went to the team asking them to rework a written deal they'd laugh at him, unless THEY determined that it helped the team (saved money).

I choose to continue to be a fan of the New England Patriots, just as I have been since the day they were born. I also choose to reserve the right to be critical of them when they make a move I don't like, on the field or off.

Now, if some assclown Pats fan wants to make it personal and start with the name-calling bullcrap, simply because I don't like this move, then that's their problem not mine.

No I'm not. I'm ******** at losing Mankins.

Why is that so hard for some people to grasp, especially the Belichick Elves like B29?

Salary cap lol

And by the way I am hardly an Ellf. I criticize BB all the time.

This was not a terrible move. But you have proven you know nothing about the game which just makes this all the more entertaining..

The moment you brought Aaron Hernandez into the conversation and attempted to link his contract, one which matched his production at the time, you lost all credibility.

If you seriously believe the Patriots would have offered Aaron Hernandez the contract he received knowing the allegations that were going to be tabled against him, then you have some serious appraisal issues.

FWIW, I thought Mankins was overpaid and made it known at the time but I'm happy to wear that as he went on to produce to a level conducive to his contract. Unfortunately for Mankins, he's closer to the end of his career than the beginning and his level of performance had slipped from elite to good.

As far as I am concerned, it's a no brainer decision. The Patriots received fair value for Mankins and he's on the same contract.
