I am not very good at assessing offensive linemen play, I think no sack great job, sack allowed you suck. I was curious what some more experienced posters thought of the play of the 3 rookies last night. Can we expect any contributions from them this season, if so which, and what type of contributions.

Stork - very, very encouraged. He looked stout. I have high expectations for him

Halapio - awful. He looked bad. Practice squad. If someone else scoops him up? Oh well.

Fleming - not sure. I need a re-watch to focus on him. I was really focusing on Stork, and Halapio ineptitude stood out even though I wasn't even looking for him.

Glad to hear that about Stork I had my doubts. Halapio is to bad would be nice to have a young power OG.

I like Fleming from what I have seen and can make sense of he seems promising.

A year or two on the practice squad and Halapio may turn into something. Not this year though. I would be stunned if he contributes at all this year.

Stork looked pretty solid. From what I recall, all of the penetration that came through was either around the edge or through the B gaps.

I wasn't paying enough attention to Halapio to notice his impact.

Fleming is so strong he looks like he blocks effortlessly. And thing is he can still refine his technique a good ways. He probably will struggle at times blocking on the edge due to lack of agility and athleticism. But he has very good athleticism and quickness for the guard position to go with his near 6'5 and 330 lb frame. His college coach considered making him a bulldozing guard since he lacked athleticism slightly for Tackle but said he found a way to never get beat for sacks so he left him at tackle. He probably won't get away with being great tackle in the NFL considering the more explosive edge rushers but he has more than enough athleticism for guard and when you consider he handled tackle without getting beat it shows he has a feel for blocking and knows how to not get beat. He also doesn't just try to seal the DLineman for several seconds, he gets movement in the run Game effortlessly. I think he can be a really good right guard and should start there

Stork looked great. Halapio looked so bad that I don't even care if he doesn't make the PS (he may one day become something, but it'll be at least a year away and looks unlikely).

I didn't pay much attention to Fleming, but not standing out against the Giants' starters is a good thing, so I'd say he must have played well.

I generally agree about Stork. I was encouraged.

Fleming & Halapio? Actually I thought Fleming was the worse of the two. But Halapio was by no means "good" either. But that's just my untrained impression. Like others have said, he lacks agility for the tackle position. So it may have been that.

Stork looked pretty good. Stout enough against a bull rush, and wasn't as bad as those around him in the run game.

As a whole, I thought the oline looked pretty pathetic while run blocking. Through the first half(ish), the pass protection seemed pretty good. Decent pocket established by Stork, and tackles escorted ends up field.

Again though, run blocking was pretty pathetic...

I just watched the Giants game, again, and I was about to start a thread called "Worried about Stork". One of the sacks allowed will probably show on the sheet as Kline giving it up. But, although I don't know how the blocking was called, it sure looked to me like Stork picked the wrong guy.

Overall, I was uncomfortable with all three of the rookie draft picks on OL. They looked like rookies, and looked even more so playing next to each other.

That said, Cave looked much worse.

So, is this about them, or Scarneccia? Jeez, I hope it's not a coaching thing.

I watched the game again studying the OL.

Stork will win the starting C job, BEFORE half way thru the season. He might even share time or start in Game 1.

Halapio needs seasoning on the PS.

Kline was only average. He got pushed back on pass pro, and didn't really open any holes. But he is a keeper.

I was impressed with Devey's play at LT. He might take the last spot as an emergency swing tackle. He might free Cannon to start inside.

Fleming did well at RT. He would make a fine and better RG in my estimation. He probably needs some seasoning, but not much for RG.

Cannon needs to play. He is the third best Offensive lineman and its unfair to hold him as a backup tackle.

I have the roster as best to weakest as Solder, Vollmer, Cannon, Stork, Connolly, Wendell, Kline, Fleming and Devey. I'd carry 3 on PS with Halapio, Barker and Cave in that order.

I agree with you about Cannon. To not have him on the field is a waste of resources. Hopefully Devey or someone else can take the tackle backup spot so we can get Cannon on the field as a guard.
