I agree about both Moore and Bequette making the team. I think Moore makes it due to his position versatility. He played every spot on the DL last night except 3-4 NT and 4-3 1 tech. Bequette played well standing up. I hate to say it, but what if Michael Buchanan was somehow the odd man out? I feel crazy for saying that.

One decent preseason game for Bequette against 3rd stringers doesn't make Buchanan the odd man out. If Bequette is ahead of him it's because Buchanan's injury is significant.

2. After 2 full years, we finally saw life from Jake Bequette. I thought he played very will this game, with several tackles including a sack and one tackle for a loss on a run. He set the edge well and it could be that he's a better fit as 3-4 OLB than he was as a 4-3 DE. But here's the problem for Bequette. Although he's playing much better this TC, I really like Zack Moore. For a kid who played at at a division 2 school. (think Bentley, and AIC), he has shown me more potential upside than Jake. If the choice winds up between the 2 of them, I think Moore needs to be a the guy who stays.

Don't sleep on big Jake's upside. In his third year he's had that breakout, all scrubs, preseason game. At this rate, he should be contending for a starters job by 2034.

I warned you that I felt crazy :p

This makes me very happy that we drafted James White instead of his slow, weak brother Robert.

Sorry, just having fun

Yes……. But how'd we pass up on their older brother Walter White…… That dude is the real badass of the White clan.:cool:

Bequette played great in the last game of the preseason last year, too. This is what he does. He didn't suddenly become a good football player.

Agree with most of it so I'll just write my disagreements:

2. Too little too late from Jake. I think he gets cut unless Bucanhan's injury is serious, which I don't think it is.

3. Finch is not better than White. He can't pass protect and he has ball security issues (see 1st pre-season game). Gray has made some nice runs but I want a backup to Vereen, and White is much better in this role.

7. Ken wrote: I don''t think he's [meaning Garoppolo] ready to step into a game against a good defense who have game planned him.

My response: Is Mallet?

This. I still don't see where Mallet has ever done anything to indicate he'd be a better play in that situation. Especially given how quickly JAG seems to learn.

Did Fnordcircle post during the game? I wonder if he is really Jake Bagel.

James White has not shown me much. I am not impressed with his ability to run inside and break tackles. If he makes the team, hopefully he proves me wrong.

I agree with your thoughts on Bequette. To add to it, his game last night was encouraging, if you're seeing it in a preseason game in a kid's first camp. Waiting until the last game of your third camp to show real signs of life might just be too little too late.

Those are my sentiments too. But there must have been something that Belichick saw all the while, and Bequette revealed it the last two games.

Interesting enough he has PS eligibility remaining too. Sometimes it takes time for the light to go on for certain people.

To that end, Mark Ingram is a great example of that. His first two seasons have been a total waste, yet this preseason, the Saints and the media can not say enough good things about his play.

James White has earned a roster spot not because of his 4th rounder status but because of impressive performance in practices and skill in the receiving game. I too have been disappointed by his traditional RB skills in the games so far, but egads, why the hell are people writing off a rookie this quickly?

Yeah, he needs to improve - a lot - when it comes to running between the tackles, yards after contact, etc... But this reaction is absurdly over the top. And the suggestion that he's only going to make the roster because of his draft status is way, way beyond the pale.

Agree with your assessment of JAG's performance. My concern is that he may not have an NFL arm. Have yet to see him gun the ball cross field like Brady does so well. He reminds me a bit of the only recent Jets QB who could play the position but had a popgun arm even before his injuries.

Well, in all fairness, it was in his draft report.
  • Lacks a really strong arm
  • Can't drive the ball downfield
  • Does not throw a really tight spiral
  • System-type player who can get exposed if forced to ad-lib
  • Gets knocked down easily
Oh sorry, that was Tom Brady's draft report.

Never forget. Brady improved significantly and so can Pancho (yes, I'm sticking with this one until proven otherwise).

I don't think anyone suggested Jimmy has the biggest cannon, but every scouting report I saw on the kid said he had a plus arm or listed arm strength as a positive. Which is more than poor Tom could say on draft day.

He can learn, he can develop, just like Tom did. He needs to refine his mechanics, and his footwork got really sloppy at times last night. He's a rookie, but he's learning, and continuing to improve. I was shocked we drafted him, a bit outraged too, but now I'm really glad we did.

Yeah, he needs to improve - a lot - when it comes to actually playing football... and this reaction is not at all over the top. And the suggestion that he's only going to make the roster bc of his draft status is probably about 95% spot on. He might well be gone already if he weren't protected by his draft status.
