While we were all distracted by trivialities like roster building and defensive schemes, the great Garoppolo nickname debate took a stunning turn:

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, whom Mayo said the team calls “Pancho”...

I suppose it's marginally better than "Meat" (Gostkowski).

But ... But he's Italian. This makes it even more confusing:

The name Pancho means 'man from France' or' one who is free'. This name is of Spanish origin and it is also used as a nickname for Frank or Francisco. Pancho is used for naming male children. It was made famous by a Mexican bandit who lived in the late 1800's.

JAG still works, and there's no ethnic issue.

Jimmy Guacamole aka Pancho. Some sort of Spanish

True, or "grappe" or "refried beans." I'm okay with just about anything if he plays well. Except "redskin."

Maybe the Patriots' marketing department needs to get involved. It's almost as if BB was handing out nicknames.

- You could take Garo and go with the Japansese theme fanged wolf.
- Garop and sound out to sound like Garrote (which fits in with the Spanish theme).
- There's the polo aspect and I'm sure you could make some tie between the 2 sports.

And I don't work for a marketing department. Nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Goodell's PC Police are exiting the tribal nations and are being redeployed outside Foxborough. NFLPA lawyers were seen departing Baltimore's Center for Scorned NFL Spouses on their way to Gillette. Reverend Al was quoted as saying "We don't do burritos" and will not take his riot squad north. Former Boston Mayor Menino is headed to Fenway Arena to defuse the crisis.

So, if he's Pancho, does that make TFB "Cisco"? I kind of like that.

Nobody thought of Pancho Sanza, Don Quixote's follower and helpmate?

Somehow I don't think that would occur to most NFL players. ;)

Some sure but not most.
