Curran thinks Mallet will be cut or traded

There have been several years this past 15 where the Patriots have kept 3 QB's, and I see this as one of them. My reasons?

The reason that leaps out to me is that the Pats have always kept 3 in the years that they drafted a QB of any significance. Cassel, O'Connell and Mallett all got a year of seasoning before being handed the mighty clipboard.

But...BB has made it clear that he's testing Gropp's mettle with this deliberate week in the spotlight, heading into the hostile Meadowlands. To me, that looks like he's seriously considering him as the #2.

Just my 2 cents as a keyboard GM................hell.............I still think Ridley may get moved next week thanks to Reiss' innuendos :)
PS....did anyone listen to Felger/Maz yesterday.....Perillo/Maz had some damning stats regarding Ridleys fumble rate and lack of big plays...when compared to the top 47 RBs. Bottom 45 in each category. No wonder Reiss is getting vibes from inside the stad

Including carries, catches reg season and playoffs, Ridley fumbles once every 57.45 times....not good and the averages are going the wrong way.

Count me as one who thinks Ridley is not long for this team (I suspect trade as he still has a ton of value). Shame too. If the guy only hung on to the football....

In terms of the explosive plays, he put on muscle after the 2011 season and I think that may have slowed him down a bit. Sometimes runners lose their elusiveness and tighten up when they put more emphasis on holding onto the football.

With Vereen, White, Bolden and Gray (maybe) they have people that can run the ball.

The Hammah is good enough to win a few games, or to at least NOT lose them if Brady is out for any length of time.

You assert this based on what?

It's called the Brian Hoyer effect.

Everyone seems to think that IF the Texans WANTED Mallett, they would just wait-lurk. I don't see that. If they actually want him they are equally motivated to trade ahead of cut-down time just as well as any team at the bottom of the waiver wire.

So they are first in-line; that doesnt help if JUST ONE of the 30 other teams is willing to give the Pats a pick (even a conditional one). So if they truly had interest, they would be better off locking him up. Now, if BB was silly enough to give them some promise for a chance to match any other offer; then they could sit back and wait. I dont think BB would do that, even for a homie.

Regardless, I still think NE carries 3 QBs (but hell, I didnt see the Mankins trade coming)

Right, I would think if the Texans really wanted Mallett they would probably make a trade for him too. I'm just saying it's a matter of paranoia for all the teams, to a degree. Even in the event the Texans don't try to trade for him, that doesn't mean they wouldn't put in a waiver claim for him if he wasn't traded for by someone else. So any time wanting his services will probably have to trade for him to get around Houston's top waiver spot.

Don't agree with my man Gwedd that The Hammah is good enough to win us some games. WE simply don't know.

I agree with borg that the #3 QB on a team like the Pats adds zero value. Only keep #3 if JAG is the true developmental guy. If he's about as good as the other guy, why keep the other guy?

So the question remains, "Does/can JAG show he can absorb enough of the offense to be enough of a #2 that the coaches see no substantive advantage in playing Mallett instead?" Hopefully tonight will see if the kid is continuing to improve or instead suffers the normal rookie learning curve necessitating keeping the dubious to me Mallett.

If another team offers NE a pick for Mallett, NE could just go to the Texans and tell them, "we have other offers for him, what's yours?" If they don't get involved, he goes to the highest bidder, if there is one.

Well, I was going on the Cassel principle. He never looked good in preseason, but when Brady went down, he came in and the team went 11-5. Mallet's been good enough for Coach Belichick to keep him on so he must have SOME confidence in him.

I admit that we don't know, and we could also all be wrong on Jimmy G. I would like to be pleasantly surprised, but I also really DON'T want to see Brady go down either. So it's wait and see time, I guess.

They should trade him for Mankins

Honestly I don't care if he's cut or traded

Garoppolo won the competition and there is no reason to clog an extra roster spot
