Wes Welker suffers concussion in preseason game

He was throwing Collie into triple coverage with the safety very clearly closing in for the kill shot. He had to have known that Collie was going to get lit up and threw it anyway. How many times have you seen Brady throw a ball like that? Please name the instances.
What about the hit that Gronk got injured on last year? Basically the exact same thing. A hard hitting safety having a kill shot opportunity.

Sure Peyton has put balls in bad places so the receiver gets lit up. But so has Brady a bunch of times. Obviously Peytons track record isn't great here, and I do think that he is worse than some other top QBs when it comes to keeping receivers safe. But he is far from the only top QB that throws these balls from time to time.

Bad example is bad. The safety has no angle. The only one getting killed there is him. Hence going low...

Peyton's track record is much worse. And you simply can't fault Brady for Ward going low on Gronk. Peyton's track record has the following receivers' careers cut short because of him throwing them into harm's way: Collie, Clark, Gonzalez, and now possibly Welker. I can't think of one WR who has had his career cut short because of Brady throwing him into harm's way. That you had to stretch with Gronk pretty much says it all.

the scary thing is, that was a pretty routine hit in the NFL...as a slot receiver in the NFL you HAVE to imagine Welker is going to take 1 or more hits like the one he took in that pre-season game over the course of the season...hes pretty much guaranteed a 4th concussion IMO..

he's one hit away of being put out of comission. I understand that he wants to play because he loves the game and wants his 6million$ but at some point he needs to think about his health.

Brady is better and putting WRs in a position to make a play than Peyton, but that's why Brady is the GOAT.

I feel bad Welker, he's a great player who will end up in the Pats HOF. I hope he comes back and is healthy.

Dude, it's still the NFL, sometimes it's the only choice the QB have, sometimes they have to make this throws and trust in the receiver to go down immediately. The problem here is the judgement that any given QB has in this situations. It looks like Peyton set the bar pretty low and the others high. Brady said many times about not putting his receivers in danger, and everytime one take a big hit he presses his hands to his own head like "ow ****". Brady is known around the NFL for that, receivers have no problem to go catch balls from him. I have to suspect that as of now a slot receiver would be afraid to play with Peyton.

The problem here is select a few evidences of Brady throwing and trying to make a point out of it.

Peyton has a significant record of victims.

Welker's next/last concussion will effectively put him on IR. The good news for him is that he can sit on IR all year and, I believe, still collect that $6M. But I agree... it's only a matter of time before Manning gets him another one.

It's still three concussions in the last 10 games. Absolutely nothing good about that, no matter how anyone puts it.

Yah, I am of the opinion the only good news on Wes Welker at this point will be an announcement that he is considering retirement.

The problem with this argument is that he probably wouldn't have had multiple concussions last year if he had stayed in New England. If Brady feels he has no choice but to throw into a situation like that, he'll often throw the ball in such a way as to try and draw the receiver away from a brutal hit (e.g., near the ground a couple feet away).

I agree that Brady would have kept him safer but Welker has a lot of mileage on him. I imagine he has had a few undiagnosed concussions over the years before they really started paying attention to it the past couple. The effects are cumulative and its becoming easier to trigger one. Pretty soon a strong wind will knock him on his ass.

Welker had concussions with the Pats before the concussion protocols were in place. It is the way Welker plays. But Manning has a long history of ruining slot receivers and TEs by hanging them out to dry.

Do you think? I guess Brady "ruined" Amendola and Gronkowski huh?

You guys and your manning obsession kill me. "Satan Manning"? Grown men think calling Peyton Manning "Satan Manning" is funny? Or cool? Or clever? Honestly not sure why anyone would do that but these boards are full of Pats fans doing it.

Welker had concussions before he went to Denver. The older you get and the more concussions you've had make you more likely to get them in the future. Welker has been playing for a long time.

It's just laughable how you guys blame everything you possibly can on Manning. We get it. pats fans don't like Manning. But grow up.

Amendola tore his groin. That has nothing to do with any of this.

And if it was just Welker, I would agree with you. Welker got lit up a few times here, it happens. But at a certain point it becomes a track record, and in Manning's case that's simply what it is. Collie, Clark, now Welker 3 times in less than a year. It is what it is. Doesn't mean that Manning isn't a great QB. He is one of the best of all time. Just means that he hangs his receivers out to dry more than you'd like to see.

Yeah, Manning has played what 16 seasons lol? Concussions happen every single day in the NFL. You have 3 guys there, one who had a history of concussions before he joined the Broncos.

The NFL is under fire because of how dangerous it is and how many players get concussions and how many former players have brain damage. "Satan" Manning must have had a time machine and ruined all those guys too. That's what I mean about you guys and your Manning obsession, concussions and their frequency are the biggest single issue facing the NFL today, lol, Welker has had concussions before ever even playing with Manning and is, in NFL years and mileage, old and at the end of his career. But yet...Manning "ruined' him lol.

Collie was susceptible to concussions, as has been pointed out (and you well know) once you get one you become more likely to get another. Welker had concussion before he ever played with Manning and he plays a position where you get blasted.

Like I said Brady should really stop "ruining" poor Amendola and Gronk.

Stretch?

I am marveled at how several people have actually responded to the Gronkowski injury example and given it any legitimacy above 0%. This is the same play in which Gronkowski, open by five yards, catches the ball full stride, takes three steps on his own, and then is taken out by safety who went low, correct? I just re-watched the play on youtube and am still baffled at how someone may in any way compare that play to Welker's concussion play. Not exactly the same thing as throwing to an oft-concussed slot receiver over the middle when there are three defenders converging upon him.

If a quarterback does not throw to a wide open all-pro tight end who has that much separation, then he should not be in the NFL. It was unfortunate Gronk got injured on the play due to a borderline dirty tackle, but I don't see how Gronk was more at risk for an injury on that one play than any random play.

Gawd, those are terrible examples. Amendola tore his groin and Gronk caught the ball wide open only to get hit low. Not exactly the same as throwing to smaller slot receivers in heavy traffic knowing damn well a huge hit will happen. Either that, or not seeing what was coming somehow. And while Welker had concussions before he went to Denver, he's never had 3 in the span of a year before that. His concussions just magically went up when he went out west, I guess. Manning had nothing to do with it... right? Wrong.

As for the rest, if you have such a big problem with how we talk about the five head, you're more than welcome to crawl back to whatever **** hole, inbred Colts forum you came from.
