2015 Draft Prospect Thread

Good grief. I'd want this guy on my team:

Just hours after being voted a team captain on Saturday, Shaw was attending a family function when he saw his 7-year-old nephew, who does not know how to swim, struggling in a nearby pool. Instinctively, Shaw jumped from a second-floor balcony onto concrete below and crawled into the pool where he was able to help his nephew to safety,

Edit: That's USC CB Josh Shaw btw for those that don't click through.

Collegiate football players of interest:

Danny Shelton, DT - Washington
Hroniss Grasu, OC - Oregon
Clive Walford, TE - Miami

Not a fan of Bryan Stork.

Just started watching Shelton and your post came to mind when I saw this:

Two of your prospects go head to head and Grasu gets the win. Looking forward to watching Grasu, he looked impressive against Shelton the whole game.

Good lord. This just went weird. It seems Josh Shaw was quite the opposite of the good samaritan:

Ugh RT @HeatherBrit Sources: Josh Shaw was involved in an incident involving domestic abuse, jumped off a 3rd story window running from LAPD

I hereby rescind my desire for him to be a Patriot.

It would be appropriate to draft a LT who can also play Guard, to just increase the overall talent level on the O-line. This is consistent with Belichick's often stated dictum, "...You draft Left tackle, and fill in elsewhere." But I don't think it is an urgent need.

USC cornerback Josh Shaw admitted to school officials on Wednesday that the story involving him saving his nephew from drowing in a pool was completely fabricated.

"On Saturday August 23, 2014, I injured myself in a fall. I made up a story about this fall that was untrue. I was wrong to not tell the truth. I aplogize to USC for this action on my part," Shaw said in a statement released by his lawyer. "My USC coaches, the USC Athletic Department, and especially coach Sarkisian have all been supportive of me during my college career and for that, I am very grateful."

"We are extremely disappointed in Josh," head coach Steve Sarkisian said in a school statement. "He let us all down. As I have said, nothing in his background led us to doubt him when he told us of his injuries, nor did anything after our initial vetting of his story.

"I appreciate that Josh has now admitted that he lied and has apologized. Although this type of behavior is out of character for Josh, it is unacceptable. Honesty and integrity must be at the center of our program. I believe Josh will learn from this. I hope that he will not be defined by this incident, and that the Trojan Family will accept his apology and support him."

Sarkisian suspended Shaw -- who was named a team captain on Saturday -- indefinitely from all team activities.

Ouch.

Crazy story, but being a great person doesn't sway me towards wanting a particular player over any other talented player that will work hard and put the team first. More often than not, they give me a feeling of too good to be true and sadly this is such an example.

I honestly think these hero stories usually back fire on players anyway because if they slip up just once the media will be there to watch them crash and burn.

Gil Brandt mentioned this guy on twitter yesterday. Personally, I 've never seen him play. But, Gil Brandt has forgotten more about football than I know. He's a good follow if you're on twitter. And, will answer questions if you have them for him. Obum Gwacham - DE - Oregon St. 6'4 1/2' 245lb 4.55 forty. A former wr.

Shawn Oakman was dominant against SMU yesterday. From Daniel Jeremiah:

Oakman was the star of the game. He has rare size, length, and athleticism. He's listed at 6-foot-9, 280 pounds, although I believe he's probably closer to 6-7. Either way, he's huge. He moved around in the Bears' scheme. He lined up at end, tackle, and even stood up some as an outside linebacker. He has a quick first step and he uses his length to swat away blockers at the point of attack. He constantly pressured the SMU quarterbacks throughout the game. I haven't studied him on tape but he absolutely looks like a premier talent.

It would not shock me at all to see Oakman end up as a top 5 pick. He's a freak. If he has the drive and work ethic to succeed, there's no limit for this kid.

Utah State's Kyler Fackrell is out for the year with a torn ACL. I know Mayo will be disappointed. Hopefully he can get back in time for the combine.

I suspected as much, and am indeed disappointed. IIRC, Fackrell is a junior, so there's no reason for him to come out, and he may event take a red shirt year. I'm sure he'll be recovered in time for the 2016 Combine.

Ah, sorry, didn't realise he was a junior. That's OK then. I've only seen him once, thought he had some Trent Murphy to his game...that doesn't really excite me but is still interesting.

Like me, Dane Brugler is a fan of Harvard EDGE player Zach Hodges. Here's brief scouting report and interview.

Q: You're listed at 6-3 and 235 pounds, but played inside and outside, even seeing some snaps at the nose. Where do you think your best position is and how do you feel about standing up and potentially playing in space at linebacker?
A: Just put me on the field and tell me what you want me to do. In high school, my favorite position was linebacker and I played mostly there. Of the 45 schools that recruited me, Harvard was one of the only schools that didn't want me to play linebacker, they wanted me on the line. I just told my coaches that I'll be ready for wherever they want to play me. When my time is called upon, I'm just trying to give my best.

Last year I was a fan go getting a hybrid player that could play linebacker and drop into coverage if needed but that could also play on the line as an edge rusher in passing downs and pegged Marcus Smith of Louisville as that type of prospect. I see Zach Hodges very much in that light.

I'm not questioning Oakman's ability but SMU's LT might just be the worst LT in the history of LTs

Sounds like we should pencil him in at LG for next season.

Only if Garoppolo has hired you to kill Brady. Have you see the game? It's now up on Draft Breakdown. Laughable performance by the LT.
