Anyone who watched the practices and games have opinions? Was there really a reason for the Jordan Devey iron man routine? I have to think the possibility of Mankins refusing to deal was expected, so what was the plan?

I'm out of town and sure can't get a bead on oline opinions based on a few games.

One thought I had is Wendell and Connolly, if not in the original plans, might start until other things shake out.

No tears for Mankins here. I respect his work ethic and playing well and in pain, but he demanded a contract he knew he couldn't likely fulfill and called the owner a liar, so good luck on his journey. It was business then and business now, I guess.

It might look something like this:

Just joking. Hope that doesn't happen.

Solder, Kline, Connolly, Cannon, Vollmer

Wouldn't be surprised if it's: Solder, Kline, Wendell, Connolly, Vollmer

Why Kline over Devey?

Welcome to the Patriots, Mr Guglielmo. No pressure, no pressure ...

Why Kline over Devey?
I figure his experience last year and his play thus far in the pre season will earn him the job. Devey's size is intriguing, though. And I don't put too much stock into snaps in the preseason but I do think BB is figuring out what Devey can, and can't, do in these four games.

And to note, it's usually a good sign for a player if they don't play in the preseason finale. It doesn't always apply to the o-line since there's only so many but it's the area I watch most this week to get a better feel of who's going to make it.

I think Solder-Kline-Connolly-Cannon-Vollmer is the ideal configuration.

Solder-Cannon-Kline-Wendell-Stork-Connolly-Kline-Vollmer

Keep Brady, Develin and Ridley in the backfield. Run the ball every play. Then when the defense really stacks the box take all the extra OL out and throw a bomb to Slater.

You gotta keep innovating, baby.

Intersting to see how he reacts. If he were still OL Coach NYJ under Rex he would be going to the media now and questioning management and deflecting blame in the event anything goes wrong.

Has no one considered that Belichick had conducted a Final exam for the O-Line contestants, without any First Stringers playing, against perhaps the leagues best D-Line (72 sacks in 2013!) of the Panthers?

Incidently they passed the test with zero sacks and at most 1 pressure. I'm sure that result reinforced Belichick's confidence in the Mankins trade.

Comments?

I never saw that game, who played on the starting oline?

I agree. It will reveal a lot. One wonders how much of this was discussed with DG when he came in and later.

I may be wrong, but I believe the starting five was Solder-Kline-Wendell-Devey-Cannon. Someone else can confirm or refute?

I agree with dales : Solder-Kline-Con-Cannon-Vol

Last year, Kline was the choice with Mankins at LT. Excellent game for the line vs Ravens. I like Kline.

Interested to see if 'whatever lineup BB uses in week 1" is still his choice later on in the season (barring injury, obv)... Does Flemming or even Stork make a push for playing time as Fall goes on ?

Update on this, I must be thinking of an earlier game, because Logan played 49 snaps against Carolina. So he did play, I just must have missed it somehow. My mistake.

We may see 3-4 different starters at each guard spot and 2-3 different starters at center. Crazy.

I'm expecting: Solder-Devey-Wendell-Connolly-Vollmer, but I'd like to see Cannon get a look at LG tomorrow night.

My hope is solder, Kline, Connolly, cannon and vollmer. Would be a pretty good line on paper IMO
