Logan Mankins Traded

Interesting indeed... So it was the Patriots who initiated the idea of moving Mankins himself. Guess they really wanted to get that salary off the books once he refused to reneg.
Not necessarily. Rap's tweet is vague about who brought up Mankins. It simply says Pats wanted a TE and then the conversation brought up Mankins. Whether that was TB or NE isn't really known from his tweet.

Good point. But at least we know they didn't come calling with their hearts set on Mankins. Probably why they didn't overpay.

If Mankins was still a really quality G, then Belichick wouldn't have traded him. I don't see the similarities between this and the Seymour deal at all. Bottom line is Mankins wasn't that good anymore. Heck, even I saw that after last season but most people here just laughed at me.

Who is a better offensive guard: Mankins or Kline?

Who is a better offensive guard: Mankins or Devey?

Wrong question. This isn't basketball. Individuals do not operate in a vacuum. The real question is, which is better for the Patriots? Kline at LG and Wright as a TE-2 and additional red zone target? Or Mankins at LG and no legitimate move-TE?

I don't have the answer to that question today, and neither do you.

Mankins, and I haven't seen anyone really say otherwise, which is why you're losing your mind. You also seem incapable of thinking any deeper than 3 > 2, rather than 2 + 2 > 3 + 0. So now that I've answered your question, maybe you can come up with a more relevant one rather than re-hashing the same garbage argument that has nothing to do with real life football.

It looks to me like you're creating a straw man to argue against rather than addressing what other people are actually writing.

HHAHAHAHAHA

HOOOOOOOO

Great post, as usual. You must be completely shocked that Mankins didn't refuse the trade to Tampa and declare his deal null and void and himself an unrestricted free agent.

The worst part of this is that on Thursday night you will have to bear Burton interviewing Belichick and asking the most moronic questions, and making the most moronic statements, in the history of Boston sports (again).

I couldn't stop laughing when Burton asked Belichick if he was surprised when he put Garropolo in early in the Redskins game.

Let's add it up. Assuming Mankins would have been cut at the end of the season regardless, as most seem to agree, the value proposition seems to be:

1 season of Logan Mankins
vs.
3 seasons of Tim Wright + a 4th-round draft pick + $6.2 million net gain cap space for 2014 or 2015

I am not sure they are the only two options. Wasn't Fleming working with the first unit at Guard on the last day of camp?

Mankins

now answer this question who is the better tight end:

Wright or mankins?

That is the BIG picture.

Now go ahead and tell Patriots Nation that Kline and Devey are better offensive guards than Logan Mankins.
That's not the part of the discussion we are having
Maybe you should just type out an argument you want to argue against and call it mine so you can save the trouble of pretending to read my posts.
So tell me what impact mankins being better than Kline has to do with the fact that even with lesser players at LG the patriots appear to gave done pretty well when mankins was out.
That is what we've been discussing by the way

The Seymour comparison is flawed. Seymour was just shy of 30 when he was traded; Mankins is 32 and has been injured more often. By 33, Seymour was pretty much an expensive JAG. That could be Mankins by next year.

Mankins has two years left at most. He is still a productive player, but age and injuries have taken their usual toll. There will be an immediate, negative effect on the offensive line. Makins made the others better. For example, with Mankins on his right, Solder could count on inside help so he could cheat outside just a bit on five step drop pass protection. That helped to cover Solder's biggest problem. Well, Mankins isn't there anymore. Bedard's passblocking criticism is unfair; Mankins covered sometimes for Connelly, Wendell and Solder on schemes; when you see him "beat" on film - at least some of those time it probably wasn't his assignment (I count twice in the Steelers game, for example). He was also the best run blocker, though that can be replicated a bit more easily in a zone blocking system; it looks like NE may be using man and zone now.

Ladieees aaand gentleman, may I present to you...the Worst Interior O-Line in All of Football…
The New England Patriots!!!

I hope Brady's health insurance is up-to-date.

That's a relief. I was worried you might approve of this move.

Is a tight ends route tree in New England smaller than that of a Wide Receiver though? We've seen some players come in and produce right away like woodhead.

Both Gronk and Hernandez came in and were up and running from the word go pretty much. Of course they had a full training camp behind them, but it's possible Wright will get /some/ run.
