Logan Mankins Traded

I'm hoping for a line to start the season of:
Solder-Kline/Devey-Connolly-Cannon-Vollmer

And maybe by season's end, a line of either:
Solder-Connolly/Kline-Stork-Cannon-Vollmer, or (best case scenario):
Solder-Cannon-Stork-Fleming-Vollmer

Depending on each player's ability to grow into their roles through the season and play well. With these last couple of lines listed, I don't think the team's pass-blocking would be much worse at all than when Mankins was in, and though the run-blocking will probably still suffer some, it probably wouldn't as badly as it would with the first line I listed.

Connolly is a downgrade from Mankins just like Connolly was a downgrade from Neal in 2010. Kline and Devey are downgrades from Mankins.

To state the New England Patriots are a better football now without Logan Mankins is ludicrous.
What does that have to do with the fact that the team went 6-1 without Mankins or the fact that you felt the need to post that he had the year and player wrong.
I'm not sure who you are arguing with, but my posts were directed at the point that you do not invalidate the fact that they were 6-1 without him by pointing out he typed int he wrong year that they were 6-1 without him.

I'm not sure why everyone is so hyped that Stork can be any good as a rookie.
That said, I hope, with 100% health, all the guys we know very little about (Devey, Kline, rookies, etc) are starting because that will mean they ended up better than the guys they beat out. :)

Wendell and Connolly both allowed more than 30 quarterback hurries last year. (PFF)

To answer your question, I attended all the home games the last three years.
You fail to mention that those 30 hurries came on more than 630 pass attempts. So even if those PFF grades where correct, be both had over 95% success rate. Compare that to your success rate of good posts. ;)

BTW attending all the games doesn't make you remotely more able to judge any player's ability, let alone an offensive lineman, who would be the most difficult for a layman to judge, even if you had all 22 access.

Who gives a crap about regular season records when the playoffs are all that matter, especially when Tom Brady is the quarterback of the team. Who gives a crap about regular season records when the New England Patriots lose to the NY Jets (of all freakin' teams in the NFL) in the AFC Playoffs. Connolly was a flop in the 2010 AFC Divisional Championship Game at the offensive guard position in lieu of Neal.

Mankins is better than Connolly at the offensive guard position. Mankins is better than Kline at the offensive guard position. Mankins is better than Devey at the offensive guard position.

OK? Is anyone arguing otherwise?

Yeah, that's what I'm essentially trying to say: hope that, by season's end, the rookies are starting because they have played well and beaten the competition ahead of them.

So your ill-advised comment is not wrong because you want to win a SB and you find playoff losses unacceptable so you imply anyone who disagrees with your comment that has nothing to do with that doesn't want to?
Okey doke

By the way Mankins played in that game.

And I'm not sure how Mankins is better than......... makes it relevant that the poster inadvertently typed the wrong year.

I get that Mankins is older, and gave up 11 sacks last year. I also get that we desperately needed a TE. However, TB was desperate for a Guard to the point of reaching out to Incognito. Any GM should be able to get more than a 4th and a TE, that Smith didn't like, for an All Pro player. We got WAY too little for Mankins, even though I do think he was overpaid.

I had read that he was doing a good job with line calls and holding his own vs Wilfork.
I may be wrong, but I'm not sure Stork practiced in full pads yet.

Late to the party but I don’t really understand this trade unless they are going to use some of the money they save this year to sign players. If they were concerned about resigning Revis and other players then they could have just kept Mankins this year and released him next season. From what I have heard Wright is struggling in almost every aspect of the game so far. Considering he is making chump change the bucks clearly did not think much of his potential.
I agree with you. Lovie blasted Wright last week, and said he can't block, OR catch. I gotta think, with them bringing in TEs and not liking Wright's performance, that we could have gotten Wright for nothing soon. A 4th round pick for an All Pro Guard, from a team desperate for a guard? Wow, that suxxxxx!

I don't give a crap about your argument. It's obvious YOU can't see the forest thru the trees.

I suspect that b/c of his high salary, cap number and age, TB & NE felt that a 4th and Wright was adequate compensation for LM.

If Mankins was 28 the return would have been much higher IMO.

I think the trade would've gotten more if Mankins was either a couple years younger, or his salary was 50% less. It's not just the player that TB was acquiring, but also the salary.

Edit: Looks like robertweathers said basically the same thing ahead of me, sorry!

A McCourty extension by lowering McCourty's 2014 cap number would probably created enough cap room to account for Revis' increased 2014 cap number.

And ultimately that's what this deal comes down to for me, does it give them the ability to get those deals done, hopefully asap.

I was hoping for at least a 1st round pick back for Mankins. We're only getting 4th. I hope the tight end we got in return is really good. All I know is that he is from Rutgers. *facepalm*
