I've read also that the TE route tree and assignments are a lot less complicated to get down than the full WR gig. So hopefully Wright can pick things up faster than a WR might.

You are correct in your second sentence here.....OL got trashed in playoffs and many other games....INCLUDING 2007.....One of mankins and OL's lowest moments.......Mankins was responsible for alot of Brady's sacks....so is Solder of course and that is concerning......Mankins has been on the way out for years.....GREAT MOVE by BB!

OK, I see SOME folks here really dismissing Mankins' play.

I'm no fan of his, but let's be honest, folks. He was an excellent OG who played a season through an ACL tear. That is not chicken feed.

That being said, he is 32 and has been diminishing (instead of being one of the 3 best OG in the NFL, to being one of the 12 best - - still not appropriate to hog up $10.5 million in the salary cap era).

His teammates evidently loved him and he was a top player (just not as "top" as before). Good luck to him. It's a business.

Looks like the 2 TE offense is back. Hernandez spit out wide a lot as a TE.

Revis likely practiced regularly against Wright during their shared tenure in Tampa. The “move” tight end draws from his wide receiver background and is developing into a strong pass-catcher. He needs to work his blocking if he wants a role in New England. The Patriots offense is complicated too, so he may need some time to get to speed. Luckily, he’s got that — speed, that is.

I have no love for Mankins after his holdout comments, but he has been a terrific player over the years. I think Greg Bedard nailed it, though:

Mankins’ play had slipped the past three years. While he was still one of the best run-blocking guards in the league (his pulling ability freed up many big runs down the stretch last season) his pass blocking had taken a hit, most likely because of assorted leg injuries. He no longer moves very well laterally in space; it was eye opening to watch him allow five sacks in back-to-back games against the Dolphins and Steelers last fall.

That kind of liability in pass protection, combined with the big contract, made him expendable. But I am grateful for his past contributions, and wish him nothing but the best.

Not to rag on Mankins, but that isn't a good stat. Obviously, theres more to it as the OL works as a team, but still.

Gave up 11 sacks.....enough said....and how much of our often ineffective running game....and partial sack screw ups falls on mankins?? Guy has been going downhill since BB insulted him with offers for a contract....and was always a bit overated after his first season here

220 lb is a SLOT receiver nowadays.....? Im still thinking of edelman welker amendola and decker as TYPICAL slot receivers and none/few of them are breaking six feet......wright is a great pickup and at least .......is a good WR!

Not only that but judging by the Lafell route blunder on the 1st series of the last game I'm not so sure LaFell has the WR route tree down all that well at this stage of the game.
