Logan Mankins Traded

So am I correct saying we save $2.75M next year as his salary was $6.75M ?

No, before his trade Mankins' 2015 cap number was 11 million. It is now $4 million. Gross cap savings = 7 million. Net cap savings = $6,490,000 as a player with a $510,000 salary takes Mankins' place in the Top 51 list.

Yeah, but Maz hates it so we 'be hot that going for us. Plus, Felger says it's only good as long as it isn't the Pats being cheap, so he's waiting to see.
Yes, the noted capologist whose expertise on the NFL salary restrictions is esoterically condensed into language we pedestrian fans can comprehend: "the cap is crap.". He additionally buttresses his argument by offering the New York Jets as evidence. What a fool...

You're kidding right?

Mankins has never been anything else than a family man, a very upstanding person with a solid work ethic.
Nothing speaks volume to Mankins' character more than when he showed up in mid season form and ready to go after the holdout in 2010. Going to miss the guy.

Keep all sharp knives away from Ivan.

While I am concerned about the well being of the OL, watching those highlight's of Wright gets me excited and hugely optimistic about how he could greatly help this passing offense. Just hope Brady has the time to find his receivers. Then again, one of Brady's strength is his quick processing of the play and release of the ball. If his guys are getting open it should be fine!

Would the Pats have had plenty of cap space to sign Revis and McCourty to extensions without getting rid of Mankins?

Opposing D's didn't put 2 CB's + 2 safeties on Jackson. You know better than that. According to you, if there was no one else on the field other than Jackson and Wright as an option for Future HOF'er Mike Glennon, then SOMEONE had to be heavily covering the kid. His best games, as mentioned earlier, were against Seattle/SF and AZ - - this kid is battle-tested.

There are 11 players on a side.

Is he "All-World". No. But,as opposed to the Milloy cut in 2003, I'm glad BB picked up something of value this time around for someone who:
1) Will not be here next year
2) Is eroding (still better than 70% of the LG's out there, but not worth $10.5 million better)

Shmessy - sometimes you should just not post if you are going to make such idiotic exaggerations and try and put words in people's mouths. It only makes you look foolish and you should know better than do try that with me.

I said that Wright wasn't covered heavily. And he wasn't. He saw one on one action 90% of the time. Could you please show me where I said no one else was covered? Nope.. you can't do that because I never did. Teams can't double cover 2 guys with man to man without leaving someone open. And even a rookie QB like Glennon could find the open guy.

Let's actually look at Wright's BEST games:
Seattle- 4 receptions for 58 yards and 1 TD.
San Fran - 7 receptions for 82 yards - 1 TD
Arizona - 5 receptions - 41 yards
New Orleans - 5 receptions for 58 yards.

Is Wright an upgrade over Hooman and the other dregs? Yep. But, guess what. I never made any comments on how good/bad Wright was. I just pointed out that there wasn't exactly a plethora of talent that he had to beat in Tampa last year so any enthusiasm should be tempered..

Would the Pats have had plenty of cap space to sign Revis and McCourty to extensions without getting rid of Mankins?

A McCourty extension by lowering McCourty's 2014 cap number would probably created enough cap room to account for Revis' increased 2014 cap number.

Thanks for the interesting morning read Bill, Tampa and Patsfans.

Logan Mankins allowed 11 sacks last season; he was an All-Pro based on reputation more than play. I love what Mankins did for this team in the late 2000s and 2010 but the past 3 seasons have not been any more than average to slightly above average guard play by Mankins. It was a smart move by Belichick, we have OL that can play as well as or better than a 32 year old Logan Mankins.

Belichick made it very clear in this past draft he wanted to rebuild the interior OL; he drafted 3 players OL with his first 6 picks. He has a plan and this is him executing it, also Belichick has seen them this camp and preseason he did not make this decision without observing the line without Mankins, etc.

We are looking great to resign revis long term now with this $$

I think this deal work out long term..but for right now who will take over that toughness role? The after whistle shoving/anger he showed I really loved. Stuck up for everyone. Who takes that over if anyone..because that's the one void where I think this hurts short term.

Does anyone think that Josh Kline is ready to start?

The worst part of this is that on Thursday night you will have to bear Burton interviewing Belichick and asking the most moronic questions, and making the most moronic statements, in the history of Boston sports (again).

Where do the Seahawks, Saints, 49ers, and Broncos get their toughness and grit on offense from? I don't think that's a major concern. The whole take-no-**** attitude is more important on defense.

I'd really like to see us use this newly gathered cap space to sign both Revis and McCourty long term.
