Meet Tim Wright

Right, I'm just saying that that number was posted when he first signed as a rookie WR and hasn't been updated. It might still be accurate, but likely not.

C'mon. Everyone knows NFL.com weights are accurate. Right, Vince? :D

I feel pretty good about Wright after watching that video but I didn't see a lot of YAC like you would have with Hernandez, who had that knack for making the first tackler miss.

Coach Lovie Smith said Tim Wright "hasn't played as well as he should be playing."
Wright has struggled with drops in the pass game and blocking in the run game. It's a surefire way to get buried on the depth chart. Right now, he's behind Chris Owusu for the slot job, and both Austin Seferian-Jenkins/Brandon Myers at tight end.

Well sounds like crappy deal. A 4th rounder doesn't make me feel better about it.

You mean "Offensive Genius" Lovie Smith???????

Hernandez was amazingly shifty for his size and amazing at creating YAC. Very hard to get a tight end that has that same ability to create YAC.

I do feel better after watching the video, but wow he's small for a TE. He might be able to block WRs, but blocking LBs will be difficult. If the kid sticks for multiple years and has 50+ receptions each year. That works for me. If he's cut in the next 2 years...come on BB!

We should put eating at the Wifork's regularly is a must in his contract. Would like to see him add 20 more lbs he shouldn't lose too much speed he looks agile between the numbers.

I posted this in the Mankins thread but it seems more pertinent here:

I must confess to not having seen him play, but what makes a 220lb guy a TE and not a slot receiver. It doesn't sound like Tim Wright is much of a blocker and isn't a threat to play inline.

Would appreciate your thoughts.
Here is my thinking Manx, Wright worked out at his pro day at 219lbs but he was doing so with the thinking that he would have to play WR to be drafted or signed by a team. Now he has been playing TE for a year, had a full offseason in the NFL, I think that he very easily could add at least 10-15lbs to his 6’4 frame. At 235lb or more he is a good fit for the flex TE, and the blocking can come along as he develops.

You're hanging a lot on Wright's shoulders. I can't believe that the Pats were so desperate for him, and the Bucs so determined to keep him, that Tampa managed to pry Mankins out of their unwilling clutches.

BB & co. once valued Logan Mankins enough to sign him to a contract with $30 million in guaranteed money. If they thought he was still near to that kind of player, they wouldn't have traded him.

The video looks promising. On the flipside, if I remember correctly Wright was the player that missed that easy, open TD throw from Freeman at the corner of the endzone towards the end of the first quarter when we were playing the Bucs in the regular season last year.

Excited to see what he can bring here. If we can field a respectable interior OL should be a scary efficient offense

To be fair, that was what, his third NFL game?

Rookie First game gitters.;)

Yea that was him. To be fair he really didn't come on strong till around the midway point of the year.

busy doing the work thing, so haven't had a chance to read through all the posts. Not sure if this theory has been brought up, but this could open the door to ink Revis to a long term deal

It is worth considering that Greg Schiano was Tim Wright's college and NFL coach and that Tim Wright was therefore clearly Greg Schiano's player, whereas Lovie Smith is Tampa's new coach.

Now consider whether Lovie Smith or Greg Schiano are closer to Bill Belichick philosophy-wise.

Don't take Lovie Smith's criticism of Tim Wright's TE ability as gospel.

Especially since Smith backtracked on his comments.

I think I may be among the only ones who saw us acquiring Wright as a possibility. A few weeks back I made a thread about the TE situation and I was stating that Wright was a potential guy we could pick up, only I was expecting him as a cut candidate. So this is still all very surprising. It's nice we at least got a player out of this, not just a future draft pick.

now timmy...just don't shoot anyone and we will be ok and you can be our flex guy!

This kid is good. Another 2nd year receiver who played with Revis at Tampa Bay - that helps for an up-close scouting report, and with Logan Ryan and Durin Harmon at Rutgers. This kid is about as well scouted as you can get.

54 catches for 571 as a rookie with a terrible offense is excellent. This kid is taller and lighter than AH. Speed is good.

Versatile player with experience on the outside in college. http://www.scarletknights.com/mobile/roster_detail.asp?sportid=1&ID=4041

If Brady doesn't get killed, this could be great.
Excellent points! He may or may not pan out here but the team certainly had enough G2 on him to make an informed decision on how he would fit in and perform here.
