Meet Tim Wright

Living down in Tampa I got to see a lot of him. He's a very good young TE and can stretch the middle of the field. He's a bigger slightly less shifty version of Hernandez with decent speed and good hands. Not sure why Tampa's new staff was so down on him but I like the kid. I just hope one of the younger guys can step up on the interior of the line.

He's actually listed at 20-25lbs less than AH.

the absolute only probably I had with him at rutgers were some of the drops. He showed up against the best teams last year.

There was talk amongst Tampa's staff that they would make him a slot receiver apparently.

My thinking on whether a player is a move TE or a slot receiver boils down to what the defence is forced to do. If your move TE is a threat to play inline, as Hernandez was, the defence is likely forced to keep an extra LB on the field to guard against the TE playing inline and getting a one man advantage inside the box. And of course that move TE then becomes a mismatch against the aforesaid linebacker in the pass game. But if that TE never lines up inside or offers much in the run game then surely the defence just puts up a DB against him negating any chance for a mismatch. I'm not specifically commenting on Tim Wright here as I've never seen him play but if he's not a threat as a blocker, I'm not sure what he would offer over someone like Lafell.

I think he may end up bumping lafell then...

The guy got solid TE numbers as a rookie with Mike Glennon and Josh Freeman throwing to him and he was second on the team in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving TDs. I think the guy, with Brady throwing to him, could be almost what Hernandez was. Hernandez may have been a bit more athletic, but this kid has potential.

True, but that number comes from his college pro day when he was still playing WR. It could well be different now after his first season and offseason as an NFL TE.

pretty much every site ive seen has him at 220.

Right, I'm just saying that that number was posted when he first signed as a rookie WR and hasn't been updated. It might still be accurate, but likely not.

ya you're right. I just hope he's at least 230 if he's going to be at TE.

I assuming they've checked that he hasn't shot anyone. :D

maybe we are going to go back to more of the two tight end sets. think about it though, in a goal line set you could potentially have Lafell, Gronk, Wright, dobson, thompkins

almost everyone is over 6feet

Looks pretty good.
  • Works the middle well
  • Finds open spots
  • Catches the ball in traffic
  • Uses his hands to catch the ball
  • Has good size to shield DBs
  • Fast enough to outrun LBs

I think 2 pass catching threats at TE with another in Vereen at RB in addition to the WR's this offense could be special.
