Logan Mankins Traded

People are definitely overlooking the addition of Tim Wright here. This wasn't a salary move at all. Well, that may have played a role but if Mankins was still good then I am positive they would not have made this move. They did it because they don't think Logan Mankins is that good anymore, and because they had a chance to get a very good young TE, which just happened to be their most pressing need.

I called out Mankins after the season for poor play and many people laughed at me. Looks like I got the last laugh now.
its a mistake to think that any move made by bb is done with tunnel vision on one issue. Its not necessarily that the team "didn't think Logan Mankins is that good anymore" but rather they saw an opportunity to move an aging player getting overpaid for an asset that may help the team later as well as filling a hole on the roster now. This move imo is less about Mankins and more about the guys that we perceived to be fighting for the RG role. I think the team is comfortable in what they have in Devy, Kline, Connoly and Cannon or they have something up their sleeves to bring in another player at the position.

The quest to have every Rutgers player on the roster is a step closer.

My 2 cents
1) Never saw GREATness when watching Mankins play...but what do I know
2) Always felt Mankins had huge leverage when he signed his big contract and BB doesn't like not having "hand"....today BB had "hand"
3) As last year proved...need TEs...lots of TEs....and a cost must be paid
4) Interior pass protection has been a problem...lets see if this change improves that protection

In BB We Trust

I had wondered what the Pats were going to do with all of their OL rookies. They don't often cut 4th rounders or better and it just seemed like a lot of pretty good young players. I guess this kind of answers that question.

I am on tapatalk and a tablet, so I am still learning this tablet, but I saw a tweet that the Patriots were trying to trade for tim wright for the past 2 weeks.

Another thing I hate... why do this trade when the preseason is about to be over? Should have gotten Wright earlier for training camp and preseason reps... this sucks on so many levels

Word is the Pats have been trying to get him for several weeks. The Bucs have to be willing to trade for a trade to happen. They seemed to want Boone first.

So when Belichick makes an offer to Jason Lycht and he says "No thanks", Belichick can just say "You don't understand. We need to get Wright into camp now. So you have no choice but to take my offer. The trade is done. Deal with it."

yeah stfu about fake football

If this deal can be broken down into these simple terms...

1. Expectation of comparable o-line performance now or at some point during this season/keeping a player they project to improve some position on the team in future (rather than keeping a player they project to decline)
2. Freeing up a significant amount of cap space to sign players currently performing at high level
3. Immediately improving the TE position on the team
4. The Bonus: a 4th round pick to add to multiple compensatory picks (as mentioned previously), hopefully contributing to making Pats a power player in the next draft

...then I guess I like it?

Just looked Up his pics from LST seasons games and he looks a little bigger and stronger than 220
Was just checking Wright's combine, and he weighed in at 220. That doesn't seem right: in the few Bucs games I watched last year, he seemed heavier than that. Can anyone who follows the Bucs more closely than I do confirm that he's significantly heavier?

Because otherwise, he's much closer to Brandon LaFell than Aaron Hernandez.

Thoughts:
1) we drafted 2 interior linement this year, plus a tackle. The injection of youth suggests a changing of the guard (see previous post for joke)
2) this is a long-term manuever. It will have a detriment to the CY.
3) Cannon to Guard still has 1 major problem. Cannon is our best back-up tackle, and Vollmer and Solder miss games (especially Vollmer). Cannon will have playing time this year at Tackle.
4) Interior line has Wendell, Connolly, Devey, Stork, Kline, and potentially Tackles Cannon and Fleming if needed
5) The line will be better than last year if Vollmer stays healthy. (the line would have been better with Mankins, but my argument is still better than PY)
6) The interior has better depth than last year IMO
7) I've learned to not use anyone on this boards' opinions on specific linemen performance. I'll take Bedard's opinion FWIW.

Similar size, similar speed, similar hands, and presumably much, much, MUCH less homocidal!
I thought Hernadez was listed at 6'1 245 and Wright at 6'4 219
Thats very different. Wright seems more like a big WR than a TE here.

The only huge backlash BB will face is if the interior of the OL (especially LG) allows a sack that ends up injuring Brady.

You mean like it did with Mankins (in his prime) in it in 2009?

a back up TE and a 4th round pick for a all pro RG. I have to say I don't like this move yes Mankins is 32 and making 6 million with a 10 million cap hit but its a week away from the season and they don't need the money and they don't need a TE that bad Gronk will be ready I don't get this move
