Logan Mankins Traded

Shmessy - You clearly didn't think too hard before you replied. There wasn't squat for Wright to compete against in Tampa last year. So him being a UDFA doesn't make a damn bit of difference.

It's unlikely that Wright saw "a lot of heavy coverage" with Vincent Jackson on the field.

Opposing D's didn't put 2 CB's + 2 safeties on Jackson. You know better than that. According to you, if there was no one else on the field other than Jackson and Wright as an option for Future HOF'er Mike Glennon, then SOMEONE had to be heavily covering the kid. His best games, as mentioned earlier, were against Seattle/SF and AZ - - this kid is battle-tested.

There are 11 players on a side.

Is he "All-World". No. But,as opposed to the Milloy cut in 2003, I'm glad BB picked up something of value this time around for someone who:
1) Will not be here next year
2) Is eroding (still better than 70% of the LG's out there, but not worth $10.5 million better)

This is relevant and directly contradicts probably my biggest concern:

Oft-asked question: NE-TB trade has to mean Pats are worried about Gronk, no? Answer: No. Gronk in good spot. This provides depth, options.

Funny, PFT calls this a desperation move for the Bucs and it wasn't a bad deal for the Pats. Granted Florio didn't write the article:

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Patriots will get a fourth-rounder in addition to tight end Tim Wright in exchange for veteran guard Logan Mankins.

That’s not bad, considering Mankins’ big salary numbers ($6.25 million in 2014, $6.75 million in 2015 and 2016).

The 32-year-old Mankins might not be the same player he once was, but any version of himself is better than what the Bucs had at guard. Their desperation was evident that they’d give a mid-round pick to get him and pay him a pile of money.

And BB still operates like one of the worst GMs one the league. One a stupid move at this point not to protect Brady.

Cannon has worked on his technique, maybe he can settle in at LG with Connolly/Stork competing at center and Fleming at RG could be a pretty good strong triad by playoff time. But we need a backup tackle then. If bellichick is planning devey connolly Kline and Wendell in some combo Giselle is going to begin talking Tom Brady into retirement again. Of those 4 players mentioned only connolly shows any stoutness and that's only at center. That's why I don't predict lineups, just suggest players I think could be good at certain positions. I like CANNON/FLEMING As guard tandem

From week 8 on Logan Mankins gave up 9 sacks. His decline as a pass blocker outweighed his ability as a run blocker in the Patriots mind.

I saw on twitter a comparison of BB and the way he runs the Patriots to Game of Thrones. There's a fair amount of truth to that. Every season there's a genuinely jaw-dropping moment.

Yeah, the perennial SB contending no worse than 12-4 team BB has built and successfully underwent a near 100% roster reset over 4 seasons with not only NOT skipping a beat, but improving, proves he's an awful GM.

Shouldn't you be on the Texans' boards?

what a week for the glazers to go on a spend spree. Keep the money in Manchester please...

Tim Wrights rookie stats are comparable to Aaron Hernendez's

Also take note on who was throwing him the ball. Freeman or 3 games and rookie Mike Glennon the other 13.

Brady was sacked 40 times last year, second most in his career. I'll see how this year plays out first before making proclamations.

So, because you have nothing to contradict that the reason for the trade is the cap relief and to get Tim Wright, you totally discount the reality of last year's situation and the situation in training camp. The fact that Wendell has had only 1 series of snaps with the 1st team and spent the rest of the time with the 2nd and 3rd stringers.

It's much more likely that Wendell's standing with the team played no part in the decision to trade Mankins.

Unfortunately I'm not clairvoyant so I can't say precisely what the reason(s) were for the trade, and I'm not discounting anything. The only reason Wendell is a part of this conversation is because you attributed some/much of Mankins' struggles last year to the guy.

I highly doubt BB would have injected so much uncertainty into an already uncertain unit if he felt Mankins could still bring it at a consistently high level. If that were the case, why not simply replace Wendell? IMO it's a combination of factors, but primarily Mankins' price relative to his play no longer presented a good ROI for the team.

£60M on Di Maria......oy vey. Will he play at centre back? That's what you need.....

Oh you are one of those people think that they didn't need Di Maria. Guess you've haven't watched Young or Valencia the past two seasons.
