Mankins got blamed for many of Wendell's screw-ups... This idea that he's on a steep decline is BS over-exaggeration.
Apparently Bill didn't agree.

They signed Wilfork and I imagine this is a big part of what the trade is about-moving salary.
Boyce and Tyms must not be feeling too good about this deal.
1) DaBruinz, he was a UDFA ROOKIE!!!!!!
HE was chopped liver also. Good for him in climbing up out of the muck. Now he gets to do it on a team LOADED with receiving options and Tom Brady at QB. (Psssst......kinda makes it easier for him).
2) If (according to your contention) "they didn't have anyone else other than Vincent Jackson and Tim Wright to pass the ball to." that means he must have seen some pretty heavy coverage on him last year, no?
Gotta be the stupidest thing posted so far.. Pulled that one right out of your arse, didn't you. Figured you just make garbage up because you know it can't be proven..Apparently Bill didn't agree.
4th Rounder + Tim Wright (a move TE)+ increasing the probability of extending Revis & McCourty for a 32 year old LG that is the highest paid LG that is on the decline IMO is a fair deal to me.
I would be totally fine with this... if we had a proven C and/or RG. Mankins is in the decline, and while he's still very good, he was going to be a cap casualty next year anyway. But making this trade now just makes the weakest unit on the team even worse. Looks like someone out of Halapio/Kline/Devey is going to have to be ready to start right away.
Re: Wright, he was pretty good in Tampa last year, and being a Rutgers guy I'm sure Belichick has been scouting him for the past 5 years. But I have a hard time seeing he alone being worth the kind of upheaval that this is going to create on a key unit of the offense. It only kinda makes sense as a trade-off to me if the pick is a good one (1st or 2nd round, and I can't imagine TB giving up a 1st).
I'll never understand how Belichick can look at Brady--a pure pocket passer if there ever was one--and elect to start three unproven and/or bad interior linemen in front of him. I fully expect this to be the team's achilles heel; it's by far the weakest unit we have.
TE: Gronk, Wright, Hooman
WR: Edelman, Dobson, KT, Lafell, Amendola
RB: Vereen
Brady shouldn't be weaponless ever again for the remainder of his career. All we really need to do is extend Vereen and the offense is pretty dedp for the next 3-4 years.

Solder-Connolly-Wendell-Canon-Vollmer
Methinks you are exaggerating. To me, the only weak spot is Wendell. Connolly is average. The other three are B+'s.
I think part of the deal was also absorbing Mankin's cap hit. Tim Wright's hit is not even 500k.
