Logan Mankins Traded

The OLs collapsed with Dante and Mankins in the lineup? Maybe Wright ends up being a player. Right now we don't have anything after Gronk
Thats the scary part.

@deters & &cupofjoe1962 - so you think that Incognito is something more than a JAG? Why do you think he's bounced around from the Bills to St. Louis to Miami. It's more than being a headcase. It's that he's a JAG and he's not an upgrade over what we have currently.

What did they do with the cap savings when they traded Seymour? At least they got a 1st rounder for that one.

They re-signed Wilfork with the cap savings from Seymour. And resigned Mankins too. One or both would have been gone if they kept Seymour.

I believe that Mankins was ranked 18th overall at Guard last season.

This trade will benefit the team in the long run.

He caught more passes because they didn't have anyone else other than Vincent Jackson and Tim Wright to pass the ball to.

1) DaBruinz, he was a UDFA ROOKIE!!!!!!

HE was chopped liver also. Good for him in climbing up out of the muck. Now he gets to do it on a team LOADED with receiving options and Tom Brady at QB. (Psssst......kinda makes it easier for him).

2) If (according to your contention) "they didn't have anyone else other than Vincent Jackson and Tim Wright to pass the ball to." that means he must have seen some pretty heavy coverage on him last year, no?

This is a steal by BB. He just traded a declining $10.5 million, 32 yr old RG who was NOT going to be back next year (google "Mankins contract negotiations") for a 24 yr old under 500K TE who broke out as a rookie last year on a team with only one other receiving threat and a QB named John Lennon....I mean mike Glennon.

.......oh, AND a 4th round pick.

Trading G Logan Mankins creates $5.755M for Patriots in cap space this year. Mankins will count $4M on the Patriots' 2015 cap.

So it sounds like we'll save 7m next season?

After giving myself time to let the shock subside, mankins is getting old, we got a pass catching te that is young (hopefully he doesnt kill 1-3 people). We get a 4th rounder as well. I kind of had a feeling he would be traded after this offseason when he refused to do something with his contract.

4th Rounder + Tim Wright (a move TE)+ increasing the probability of extending Revis & McCourty for a 32 year old LG that is the highest paid LG that is on the decline IMO is a fair deal to me.

Yup you're right, now I remember that scene from a A Football Life w/ BB. So hpefully we get McCourty & Revis extended

Why? Mankins was pretty bad pass blocking last year. Hes' old, expensive and on a steep decline - if Kline/Devey/Cannon have shown to be just as good in camp, then that is why Belichick has pulled the trigger on this trade.

B, you are right. Mankins play was shaky. It just seems like a weak O-line just got weaker. That's all. :(

Mankins got blamed for many of Wendell's screw-ups... This idea that he's on a steep decline is BS over-exaggeration.

Tough to see Mankins go. Loved his grit, and will always respect him for playing the Super Bowl on a torn ACL.

I will reserve judgment on whether or not it was a good trade until I see how Wright fits in (or doesn't) and whether the interior o-line holds up. One thing I will say is that against a very good Carolina front, the o-line held up great without Logan playing. Small sample size for sure, but it gives me some encouragement.

Good luck Logan!

They signed Wilfork and I imagine this is a big part of what the trade is about-moving salary.

Boyce and Tyms must not be feeling too good about this deal.

I do agree with this.

I think that Marcus Cannon is moving to guard. He was projected to be a first round pick when he came out. He is healthy now, has two years in the system. Time for him to put on his big boy pants. Moving from left to right and from tackle to guard is tough. Give him some time to play one position and I think you will see that he will be a more than equal to the task. Its tough until you play next to the same guys for a while, you get used to who does what best as far as the line calls/blocks are. It wouldn't surprise me if Garropagos see the first team line in front of him on Thursday for at least the first drive.
