Logan Mankins Traded

A 4th rounder is bullsh.t. Bad deal Bill.
On some level the trade is Logan Mankins for Wright, a fourth round pick, and the ability to resign Revis and McCourty.

I am not all that surprised. Mankins was not going to be here next year and his play has declined over the last few years. I don't know if I like the trade, but it isn't shocking.

Let's see if the Pats do anything with any cap savings.

Was waiting on a Mankins trade for a couple of years now, surprised it came this late but the cap space saved....McCourty & Revis getting longer stays in Foxboro?

If this is the trade off, well then I might be able to get over it. I'm just really concerned about the O-line.

Who is bb going to get to replace mankins is the question? Pipe dream Boone? Or is our oline gonna be strong enough in the interior?

I'd rather go 0-16 than root for a team with Richie Incognito on it.

Mankins allowed 11 sacks in 2013, with the occasional time at tackle. Among guards, only Brian Winters allowed more.

Not to rag on Mankins, but that isn't a good stat. Obviously, theres more to it as the OL works as a team, but still.

I don't like this at all. This O-Line was scary while he was here and now, IT'S EVEN MORE SCARY. I hate this move.

Why? Mankins was pretty bad pass blocking last year. Hes' old, expensive and on a steep decline - if Kline/Devey/Cannon have shown to be just as good in camp, then that is why Belichick has pulled the trigger on this trade.

Yeah that line on paper is not as good as last year, and we know what happens when that line goes against a good DL

If Cannon did get moved and was a capable RG, and Vollmer stays healthy, that line would be about on par with last year's, IMO. LT stays even, LG gets much worse, while C, RG, and RT are all upgraded. The problem is that on par might not be good enough. Every poster here went into the offseason figuring that an upgrade was necessary.

BB is going to trade for Boone.

Upgrade from Mankins and gain a TE2 with upside, just wait.

Wow. I was tied up all day, and just saw this news. If true, I'm speechless. I had Mankins a likely goner in 2015, but had no expectations of a trade in the works. Never saw this one coming.

I haven't finished reading all the posts in this thread, but I can only agree that I hope it was a Seymour-like offer that BB decided he couldn't refuse, and that it was better to move on from Mankins one year earlier and get something valuable in return. I'd love to flip some of that possible trade value to the 49ers for Alex Boone - a much younger player, with more upside at this point in his career. Manx's Brandon Scherff suggestion also sounds good.

What did they do with the cap savings when they traded Seymour? At least they got a 1st rounder for that one.

A 4th rounder plus what might be a pretty good player with a ton of upside playing on a rookie contract. If this frees up money for Revis, I'm all in.

Dang. Saw this on a yahoo headline and had to come here to see if it was true. Never imagined he would be traded.

So how good is the TE we got in the trade?

Any other team want to give up talented 2nd year players with dirt cheap control through 2017?

Go BB go

I would have guessed that we would release Mankins next year. So in that sense this is a good move. But I really don't see anyone on our interior line right now that is close to Mankins. I'm not thrilled about what we have in his place right now.

Im not thrilled about this move either. ... But the whole Brady's gonna get killed crowd, just remember. Mankins almost got Brady killed a couple of times last year himself, including the AFC championship game. ...

I'll only be okay with this move provided it doesn't mean Wendell is the starting center.

But he was a good run blocker up there
