Logan Mankins Traded

Let's put it this way:

He's a 6'4 TE/WR who, as a rookie last year, caught more passes than any of our rookies last year ****From Mike Glennon, no less.
He caught more passes because they didn't have anyone else other than Vincent Jackson and Tim Wright to pass the ball to.

This trade doesn't thrill me for the immediate future, but Mankins seemed to be performing well under his contract numbers in the passing game last season, and was only justifying his money, sometimes, for the running backs.

Tim Wright is a good player and liked around the Bay area. I've seen him a lot and he always seems to find an opening on the field and can contest for catches. He is pretty quick and agile too.

Now BB, sign Incognito and trade for Boone and we would have upgraded 3 spots in a single day!

Richie Incognito is not an upgrade over Kline or Devey...

4th rounder plus some guy named Tim Wright that his own coach proclaimed to be struggling in training camp and the preseason?

That sucks, great player, exactly the mentality you want in every player. Hopefully the move is to free up the money to pay both Revis and McCourty. I get the move them early mentality but if it means brady iis going to get intense pressure up the middle then it's simply not a good idea. The interior OL was already my greatest concern going into the season and that concern only grows with this move. i hope this is for a 2nd at a minimum, you don't give up a HOF caliber player for donuts.

I need to see if Miguel has weighed in on this, the numbers will be significant.

Except for the fact that the Pats had their best running to the left side of the line last year, not the right.

sucks mankins never won a super bowl here. mankins was a bit overrated but he was still a good player. unless dante comes back itll probably be the same old o line collapsing again in the playoffs. hope BB has something up his sleeve. tim wright looks like a good player based on raw stats...

The OLs collapsed with Dante and Mankins in the lineup? Maybe Wright ends up being a player. Right now we don't have anything after Gronk

A 4th rounder is bullsh.t. Bad deal Bill.

I was okay with the idea of taking on Incognito--dirtbag reputation and all--to shore up RG even before this trade. Now I'd borderline welcome it.

That makes it more impressive because If they didnt have a lot of receivers to worry about that means he was drawing teams best receivers.
On the other hand this shows how much power young belichick has.

I don't like this at all. This O-Line was scary while he was here and now, IT'S EVEN MORE SCARY. I hate this move.

"Steve Maneri...please report to Belechick's office...bring your playbook..."

My guess would be that it's more about getting whatever you can now in return for clearing out cap space that they were eventually going to have to clear out anyway. As part of that, Belichick evidently feels comfortable with Mankins' replacement.

I hope that he's right to feel comfortable, because these things have gone both ways in the past. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it turns into a dumpster fire like the DEs post Seymour/Warren or the 2011 safeties after cutting Sanders and Meriweather.

Bummer to lose Mankins but hoping this works out for us. I've been thinking for a couple years now that given his age/salary he could be a cap casualty and now may be a good time for it while he still has value as he's coming off a great year. Question is what is the pick, and what is our plan for fielding a decent interior. I haven't followed preseason as closely so I'm not quite sure what the rookies and Wendell/Connolly/Cannon have looked like. Wright could be a great acquisition too.

Again, tough guy to lose.

(2/2) It is likely that Mankins earned his offseason workout bonus money making his 2014 dead money hit 4.25m and his 2015 dead money 4m.

I certainly hope Bill is on the phone making a trade for Alex Boone.

He had 76 targets last year, whereas thompkins had 70 and dobson 74.
