Logan Mankins Traded

Tim Wright is a good player and liked around the Bay area. I've seen him a lot and he always seems to find an opening on the field and can contest for catches. He is pretty quick and agile too.

Now BB, sign Incognito and trade for Boone and we would have upgraded 3 spots in a single day!

Find it puzzling IF this is a move to replace The Prisoner since I thought in pre-season Josh had pretty much demonstrated that the standard offense was quite dynamic WITHOUT the need of a replacement for The Prisoner.

Was waiting on a Mankins trade for a couple of years now, surprised it came this late but the cap space saved....McCourty & Revis getting longer stays in Foxboro?
Over the Cap says 2.5 million saved this year in cap space.

Patriots will receive Bucs' fourth-round pick in 2014 in additon to TE Tim Wright in exchange for G Logan Mankins.

As expected, not a very high pick..Licht would not do it..

I am oficially mad about this

Just a Reiss tweet, 4th rounder

Didn't see this coming, always liked how Mankins played, but I'm going with the one year earlier and cap room angle.

I have no idea who the kid from Rutgers is but I thought this was interesting, he had his three best games last year At Seattle (4 catches for 58 yards, TD) At Detroit (8 catches for 75 yards) and home to SF (7 catches, 82 yards, TD) not exactly the AFC east! Those are some good numbers against very good defenses, two of which were on the road, all from passes not thrown from a HOF QB. This certainly answers the "how to replace Hernandez" questions.

With Mike Glennon throwing him the ball, no less. I like Wright, and I think it's cool that the Pats got him. He will be a good player for us, without a doubt. I'm sure Belichick wishes he'd just spent a 7th rounder on him last year, but getting him as a relative throw-in on a cap-clearing Mankins trade is the next best thing.

I'm just also mildly terrified that this interior OL is going to get Brady killed. If we were taking odds on "if the Pats lose another playoff heartbreaker, what will be the main culprit?" I'm putting my life's savings on "consistent interior pressure".

Just last night at Patriots annual premiere event, Mankins shared stage with Brady, Wilfork & Mayo for roundtable. Adds to shock of move.

We get TB 2015 4th round pick

Dan Connolly to left guard? Ryan Wendell is at center? Marcus Cannon at right guard?

Would be my guess.

Mankins play has certainly declined, but trading him away before an adequate replacement is found doesn't sit well with me. And we only got a 4th in return which I believe is way too low. I was expecting a 2nd or at the very least a 3rd since the Bucs were desperate for help at O-line.

Always thought Mankins was pretty overrated. I'm good with the move.

I am quite surprised by this. I will miss Mankins. He gave it his best here, IMO. Was a terrific player for a stretch and in decline recently. He probably would have been restructured or cut next year.

Tim Wright has some promise. Others have noted his numbers in TB last year. Hopefully he can pick up the offense quickly and get on the same page with TB12.

Thanks for the good years, Logan!

Yeah that line on paper is not as good as last year, and we know what happens when that line goes against a good DL

Still have $8m in dead money. The problem is do we take the hit now or spread it over the two years?

Per Spotrac, we clear $5.755m in 2014 cap space.
That's the million dollar question right there. Personally I would take the hit now and get it over with.
