Logan Mankins Traded

anyway...time for all the roster geeks to burn the hundreds of mocks they've feverishly been working on all preseason....I think it's time to acknowledge the FACT that none of us really has a clue as to what the Pats and BB will do until September 1st.

OK...so who plays left guard now?
Apparently it doesn't matter all that much. At least with Mankins gone, we'll save two or three personal foul penalties this season.

sucks mankins never won a super bowl here. mankins was a bit overrated but he was still a good player. unless dante comes back itll probably be the same old o line collapsing again in the playoffs. hope BB has something up his sleeve. tim wright looks like a good player based on raw stats...

I'm ok with this trade it's give us some more cap room.

54 catches and 5 TDs as a rookie on TAMPA BAY is not insignificant.

Yeah, Tim Wright is pretty good. He's not Hernandez but has that sort of skillset. Converted wide receiver. Can't block at all, which is an issue that will need to be worked out.

I'm holding off judgement on the trade until we see what the pick is. I'm guessing no more than a 3rd or 4th.

Josh Kline?

My memory might be off, but the game Solder missed this year that kicked Mankins to LT and Kline to LG, we actually had pretty damn good interior protections.

Kline might be a fit, I recall him not looking good at RG, but I don't know how much Lg he got to practice at.

Solder - Kline - Connolly - Cannon - Vollmer

That could be a good line, potentially better than 2013 was. Stork and Wendell (If he survives) will always be on the ankles of Connolly pushing both to be better as well.

now we know why Kline was getting so many reps in practice and preseason games...I'd have never figured this.

Ample cap space for Andre Johnson?!

Buckle your seatbelts

(For real I hope we trade for Boone or sign Richie)

Holy crap. Sure Mankins had some whiffs last year. But looking at the all-22 tape he really was our road mauler that opened up running lanes where there seemed to be none.

I have nothing against Mankins, and while he is probably a better guard than other options on the team, he is perennially overrated and not worth the contract he is playing under anymore. I'm most worried about how we replace him now and what the fact that we signed a receiving TE says about Gronks expected availability for the early games.

Or it says the two TE offense isn't as dead as we thought.

I wonder if this speaks to the end of the Dante 'dancing bear' era and a move towards more of a mauling OL that the recent draft suggested.

Mankins was our best inside Lineman (and second best overall after Vollmer).

Was he worth his salary cap? No.
Is he getting any better? No.

Tim Wright is not the main piece for us, so I can only assume we will get a high pick (I'm thinking it will be a second or a 3rd round pick)

What gets on my nerves and what doesn't make this trade good in my book (I can change my mind later) is that this trade doesn't help us win now. Quite the opposite actually, as it makes our team a bit weaker, which, considering that we are on a Arms Race against the Donkeys (+ NFC), is something that should not happen

Well ....... Dareus, Williams, Starks, Odrick, Richardson and Harrison outta be tickled pink by this news.

Well.. BB is good for a stunner almost every year. I confess I didn't see this coming at all, however:

In retrospect, this probably shouldn't be surprising. Not only was Mankins' play slipping, but considering the messy contract issues they had last time, this would certainly have repeated itself next year, especially in light of the fact that he has consistently refused to take pay cuts.

However, I greatly admired him for his toughness and old school manners. He wasn't one to open his mouth much.

Just throwing this out there and seriously hope not...the league cleared Incognito to resume a career in the NFL...

I had guessed that this cutdown period would be a return to the pats trading fringe roster players for picks as the depth on the roster is returning to it's old days, as opposed to plugging multiple holes from other teams rejects we have seen in recent years.

Now, I just didn't foresee mankins as one of those players.

@GregABedard
What few wanted to admit was Mankins' play had slipped the past few years. This is BB selling high.
