8/25: Reiss Predicting Ridley Gets Cut

It IS interesting to note the impact that these mediots have on us. Think about it. Its almost a natural pastime for fans to be making their roster predictions this time of year. Some of us are up to "my roster projection - 105.0" ;). And I'm sure on a few of them, Ridley didn't make the team. However when that happened, the guy got a few "are you crazy's" and a few "no I'm not's" and that was it. When Mike Reiss makes a similar observation, we get a 4 page thread that will likely get into double digits before the day is out. Clearly not all observations are created equal. ;)

Ridley does not have to sign with the new team making the trade null and void.
What does he have to sign? He's already under contract. The rights to Ridley would be traded to another team. His contract is still in place. Do you think Seymour wanted to go play for OAK? He didn't and refused to report but the trade still took place. He was a Raider. OAK sent him a letter telling him to report or he'd be placed on the reserve/left squad list so he couldn't play for any other team that year. If that happened he doesn't get an accrued season and the rights to him are still owned by OAK. He reported six days after the trade and played in week 1.

Ridley will either get cut, traded, or make the team. There are very few players on this team that would surprise me if they were cut, and Ridley isn't one of them.

Do you have a list of the players that BB has cut who have gone on to success?

I am not the person who claims that Belichick sucks at his job triumph, that would be you. I am also not the person who claimed I could draft better than him, that would also be you. Belichick doesn't tend to make stupid moves which is why I said it would be his dumbest cut in a long time.

Now, let's see that list of yours?

Yes, if the 53 cutdown date was not days away.

The Pats have to make a decision to let Ridely go or a player they think holds high promise for the future.

And again, you're missing the point that a team has to compete with a bunch of other teams for his services if he goes to free agency. If they throw a late round pick to the Pats, they get him guaranteed.

I think Ridley knows that his leash with BB as to Fumles is shorter than a tight dog collar. If his Frst Fumble is one of the "Carless" variety *many of Ridley's Fumbles are* my Man Brandon Bolden will take over the lead at lead RB. Bolden doesn't get alot of respect around here but he's faster and tougher than Ridley and always holds on to the ball BGE II. That said Ridley lost his Job before to Blount last year and could lose it again to either Bolden or Gray. We all know you don't have to be a Super RB to have success on a Team with Tom Brady at QB.

Or the fact that there is no reason for the Patriots to cut Ridley, even if he became #4 on the depth chart which is ridiculous.

According to this thread Bolden is going to be cut because he doesnt have a lot of preseason carries.

I would absolutely hate seeing Ridley get cut. Hell, As a Sophomore he was top 10 in Y/C IIRC, he is the RB I trust the most running the ball, by some margin (Vareen may be better all-around, but as a Pure Runner, Ridley is a the top of the NFL, IMO).

I would dare to say that BB would be making a incredibly dumb mistake cutting him now. Honestly, He's on the last year of his Rookie Contract, at least let him try to prove that he did get better this year and let him walk next season. There aren't many guys with his abilities in that range of salary.

No way. He still looks good out there, better than the guys competiting with him. I understand BB's frustration with the fumbling issue though.

Ah, my bad. I thought the play was blown dead, but it seemed pretty obvious Ridley was down anyways and that's the consensus that the other thread on this topic came to.
The consensus was, he probably would have been ruled down, but, after all of the issues he has had with fumbling, it probably didn't help his cause much.

Lmao, This post is so dumb it is beyond belief. Since when does a player under contract without a no trade clause have to approve any trade to any team? Ridley's deal is up after this season, he has no say in any trade.

Triumph has been clinging to the fact that it didn't need to be challenged because they recovered it, everyone knows he was down it's just a desperate attempt to take shots at him.

Its not vitriol, PT, its fear. Fear that he has gone to the "dark side" The very qualities you mention are the things I have always liked about Mike Reiss. They are what set him apart from the rest of the self aggrandizing media pukes.

In this illogical stab at "stirring the pot", his reasoning is all wrong, starting with the amount of time Ridley played the other night, to trying to take credit for seeing the Kelly cut coming early on. These are NOT the usual types of observations one expects from Reiss. Thus the fear on my part that the chase for TV time, and the competition for notoriety has finally gotten to him.\

I can only hope that you are right, and this is only a blip on the horizon, and my fears are just that, only fears.

i don't think Reiss suddenly morphed into a douchebag I just think he is trying to be bold and predict a surprise, however imo there is no sense to this and he's way off the mark.

I just can't picture this. Fumbles aside....nobody on our team has anything close to his skill set. Plus he's in a contract year if I'm not mistaken.

BB has a history of cutting veteran players earlier rather than later (see Kelly et al), so that they have a better chance of landing a spot on another team. So if he was gong to cut Ridley, he would have done it already.

Reiss is just throwing it out here as a surprise cut, and he says as much. People are losing their minds over nothing, as so often happens with this stuff.

Reiss predicting that Ridley will be cut is the same as him predicting the Pats would take Jon Beason in the draft. This is where Reiss is at his worst..

Reiss is an excellent reporter and a terrible analyst.
His reporting makes him an asset. He has every right to analyze and his readers/viewers have every right to point out he isn't very good at it.
