Schefter reporting Kelly, Anderson and Smith cut

Was Kelley suffering a (relatively minor but a few weeks at least) injury?

Smith is done, so that's not a surprise
Anderson as inconsistent in coverage, so I'm not particularly shocked, although I thought he was safe to this point
Kelly makes no sense to me

Cutting Kelly one of our best DL for no reason? Thanks for ruining my day Bill

Obviously Silinga, Jones, and Verrano are closer then we think, and likely Easley is as well. Kelly, looks like probably was a cap cut (at least in so far as BB thinks he can get equal production for cheaper $$, ex... see Mesko cut). It's good news on the injury to the youngers guys though.

So BB, once again, does the classy thing and cuts a veteran that he knows he's not keeping , but that likely still has some in the tank early enough to catch on with another team.

Still not sure how I feel about two athletic freak projects being our backups to Jones/Ninko. I wish there was someone NFL ready behind them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't Worthy (4th round draft pick, played in 14 games as a rookie) and Easley (1st round draft pick), the backups at DE?

Seems like to me that Belichick is trading a big road grader fatty for some young bucks who can get after the QB. This is shaping up to be young aggressive, attacking front line.

Guess some folks need to update their regular season rosters.

God forbid any injuries hit the team at DT, we are screwed. I thought Kelly played pretty well Friday night. His size will be tough to replace. Hopefully Siliga will be that man, and will be ready.

Cut Andy Hart some slack. It's tough to keep up with pre-season developments when you're breathing Naugahyde fumes 16-hours a day in a windowless room with Paul Perillo as Bob's Stores Trainees.

Andy Hart still hasn't recovered from the concussion he got hitting himself in the head for three hours after the Garappolo pick was announced. He's the kind of guy who really should wear a bicycle helmet 24/7. His football analysis is useless.

Perillo is just a poor-man's Borges. Very faint praise indeed.

Tommy Kelly on reason for his release: "I don't know but I enjoy my time and my teammates. I have no problem moving along with my career."

The comments from Kelly don't sound like he's returning to me, although I may be reading too much into it:

" 'I don’t know but I enjoy my time and my teammates. I have no problem moving along with my career,' Kelly said, via Tom Curran of CSNNE.com."

EDIT: Sorry, JDot for the repeated comment.

Huh?

Wilfork, Silega, Jones, Vellano, Easley, and Worthy can all line up at DT. All of them have signficant NFL experience except Easley (1st round draft pick).

Look at it this way, we have last year's starting d-line (all with a year of experience) PLUS Vince Wilfork PLUS Easley PLUS Worthy.

Worthy is actually a former 2nd round pick, for whatever it's worth.

I think there will be a few head scratchers to come in Patriot's land the next week to 12 games. Comes with the territory. Draft choices cut while UDFAs make the team, positions of weakness will see a lot of cuts and signings, etc. Normal BB stuff, we see it every year.

I agree that losing Kelly isn't the end of the world to me, although I'd like to see another vet signing just to be safe.

Thanks for the correction. I knew that... brain fade typo. And, don't forget that my man Mike Mayock had a "first round grade" on him. Probably wet himself talking about his 3-cone time or something! :)
