Season Ending Injuries around the league

Not season ending, but generally re: injuries around the league, now there's this:

Yikes.

I hope it's season ending for Welker, not because I want it to be a severe concussion, but I hope the Bronco's do the right thing and shut him down.

He's had an amazing career, especially for an undrafted guy that neither of his first 2 NFL teams seemed to want.

He's at such a huge risk every time he steps onto the field now, unfortunately, do the right thing Denver, shut him down.

every time Peytie gets flagged he should have to eat one of those Papa John monstrosities he pimps..

Reminder for those who might have forgotten: Welkah originally signed with San Diego, who cut him after one game.

what's the problem with Swearinger, last pre season he ended Dustin Kellers career, now this, what a moron, I hope someone make him pay.

Why? It was a shoulder-to-helmet hit. Didn't seem to have any intention to injure Welker. he just hit him hard, and Welker's a short guy who likes to get low, so his helmet will frequently be around shoulder level. Swearinger was just doing his job.

Fully admitting I havent watched the Welker hit yet, but if its as you say, then the same people crying "dirty play" are probably the same group that think Pollard's tackle on Gronkowski where he suffered the high ankle sprain was dirty. Just a guy wrapping him up, just like Swearinger made a completely legal hit, as you say.

Whenever a fan favorite gets injured its always a "dirty hit", it's just how it is.

Edit:

I just watched the Welker play, had Welker kept his feet up, he would have been fine, still a big hit, maybe the wind knocked out of him, but Welker either lost his footing or tried to go down and lowered his face into Swearinger's shoulder, it was an intentional big hit, but it was NOT an intentional hit to the head.

Welker is either falling accidentally or intentionally lowers his own head which causes the shoulder-to-helmet blow. Not Swearinger's fault in my opinion.

I still really hope Welker gets out while he still can. He's a great guy by all accounts and he needs to leave the game before it takes a permanent toll on him like what happened to Seau and others.

Yeah, exactly, I 100% agree with your edit. It was an intentionally big hit, but I don't want to watch an NFL where that's no longer accepted. If anything, Welker was the one who endangered his head by going down.

Also, it's my opinion that Brady would have (and virtually always did) placed that ball lower and probably a little behind Welker, so that he could get to the ground a lot faster without exposing his head like that. That's how he managed to run around in the middle of the field here for 6 years, and get his clock cleaned fewer times than he has in one season with the Broncos. Peyton kinda hung him out to dry, placing that throw where he did with Swearinger bearing down on him like that. We watched him do the same stuff with Collie in Indy, too.

EDIT: here's the GIF, for anyone who hasn't seen it:

So what is Swearinger supposed to do, Goodouche? If Swearinger gets fined for that, it is a travesty. He was bent at the waist, torso pretty much parallel to the ground, on contact. WWW tried getting down before contact.

I hope Wes recovers, and considers recent history and future health.

Did Wes receive as many "buddy passes" in his career in NE as he has received in a year+ in Denver?

Probably not. Brady was(is) amazing at putting the ball right in front of him and low so Wes could instantly turn up field and go really low to avoid big hits.

Welker got hit on the left side of his head, and then slams the right side into the turf when he falls. Hard to say which(or both) caused the concussion.

I agree with Woolster. Look at the film of the play:

Rodney made a zillion of those kind of hits, and we cheered every one. There was no headhunting on that play, just a hard hit that wouldn't have been flagged in the past.

What's scary to me is that WW suffered a concussion from that hit. It wasn't anything especially horrific, just a good, hard hit, the kind any receiver has to expect to take.

That hit should not have drawn a flag. It was a hit from the shoulder, there was no launching and Welker possessed the ball long enough that he wasn't a "defenseless receiver".

every time Peytie gets flagged he should have to eat one of those Papa John monstrosities he pimps..

Might this be a wee bit of jealousy on your part, given your newfound dietary discipline?

His head snapped around pretty good. Part of me wonders if that giant helmet made things worse? It creates a larger target, and must add stress to his neck as any impact is coming from a larger radius.

Welker's trying to get down because Manning's led him into a hit. That's what small receivers do. Swearinger is trying to light up Welker. That's what hitting safeties do. I've no gripe with Swearinger. If I'm Welker, though, I might be going code red on Manning.

Does anyone think its a coincidence that Stokely and Collie both had the same problems?
