Pats Pre-season TV production is not good

Well, last night they interviewed some dude no one cares about from Friendly's while the pats were creating and recovering a fumble. Didn't even break away. Bob Kraft should be embarrassed.

I muted the sound and made a personal commitment to never set foot in a Friendly's during that segment.

Oh, gawd. it's gonna be a long night. Video of the Pats production meeting for tonight's broadcast:

These idiots are actually planning how they can ignore the game action in order to focus on their "analysis" of players and positions.

Heck, maybe they could just skip the game entirely and stay with Andy Hart and Paul Perillo in the leather recliners. Bring in Mike Mayock to talk about each player's 3-cone shuttle at his pro day. Yeah, that's the ticket!

Just shoot me now.

Are you serious? After the first drive or two, who cares about down and distance or the vanilla play call. I want to hear how some guy who's name I will forget did.

It sounds like I'm joking, but I'm serious. I know Brady will make the team. I want to know how the battle for the eighth WR spot is shaping up.

In September I won't care and probably won't know the names of guys cut, but for now that is what pre-season is about. Heck, I don't even care about the score.

I would be nice if on blocked punts the camera didn't show the reaction of players down field though.:)

Yeah, you've got a point but in this day and age, smothered in cheap technology, not consistently posting or mentioning down and distance is pathetic. The play by play dudes need a spotter, or more spotters, to at least shout out the numbers or what the penalty calls are. The Pats are all about professionalism and achievement, they ought to make their pre-season TV broadcasts, when many folks encounter the Patriots franchise for the only time, follow the same path of aiming high. What they have now, and have had for two years, is lacking the sharp edge of quality production.

My thoughts exactly. Put an intern with a roster in there and announce who made every tackle, key block etc.

2 more games of this carp and then we get Jenny Dell on the sidelines most Sundays :)

If they want new, that's fine.
  1. Use Chatham and Fauria as sideline "analysts", have a mobile "Bob's Discount studio" for them to go to at the half, and keep Burton for the fluff pieces on CEOs and the like. Heck, this would even allow for an eye candy (or 'serious female sports journalist') position at the "Discount Desk".
  2. Bring back a real PbP and Color duo.
  3. Axe the Hart/Perillo stuff.

For the love of all that's holy, at least do points 2 and 3.

Just so you know, marijuana has not been legalized in Massachusetts yet. :)

The most cringe worthy aspects of the announcing was Fauria. Why must we have a former player for pre-season. If axing anyone, axe him and move Perillo and Hart to color. I'm more interested in who made a key block than anything about "Jimmy."

In the regular season, it is different. That would be horrible in the regular season. Anyone confusing pre-season with regular season need to see a psychologist (or psychiatrist I forget which is which until one can prescribe medical marijuana. :) )

When I had watched the game I didnt realize it was a NEP production and thought NFLN was experimenting. I was extremely confused wondering what the hell was going on and why it was so terrible. This makes a little more sense now. I wasn't too thrilled with the cutaways to the studio in the middle of game play. I didn't listen to the commentary at all and kept the tv on mute. I will say it did quite aggravate me that they would show the down and distance under the score then it would just disappear and not show up again until after several plays had been made. I mean you go to the bathroom and come back an you have no idea where they are on the field. I had actively search for the sticks markers to see what down they were on and hope they would show the distance on the field. This is something basic that should not be overlooked for a broadcast

I'd prefer Chatham to most color guys. force the play by guy to announce player names. Have beauty queens with dyslexia interview the ice cream vendors for Bob's furniture and eliminate everyone else.

Me, too. Of course, that would have to start with the play by play announcer actually telling me who has just come into the game, which o-linemen are on the field, etc. That is kinda hard to do when you are cutting away to a couple of blokes in recliners or an interview about Friendly's ice cream.

What's infuriating is that they actually planned to not even bother keeping the viewer up to date on the most basic information: who is in the game?

Can't wait to see what they have for us vs Carolina!

A couple of weeks ago I couldn't wait for preseason to start because at least there would be some form of football on tv. Now between the flags and our local broadcast.. I REALLY can't wait for the regular season. These couple games have been brutal.

So what does everyone think? Was the head coach surprised when Garappolo went into the game? :)

That might have been the dumbest question ever from the mediots, and that's saying a lot....

Wow. In this week's production meeting video, someone makes a suggestion. Since the on-screen graphics are always wrong, couldn't Fauria just use the telestrator to draw a line through the incorrect graphic. Fauria says that would be a problem because the telestrator doesn't work....

Yikes....

Anyone else find Christian Fauria extremely off-putting? Third game in a row he's taunted Dan Roche in the booth.

I'm all for friendly banter between two guys who obviously have rapport (eg: Don & Jerry) but here it seems pretty mean spirited and comes from the frame of a meat-head making fun of the nerdy Dan Roche.

Don't get me wrong, they're both awful commentators, but at least Roche seems like a nice guy. Fauria is pretty insulting to him, watching him obnoxiously patronizing him with a rap was uncomfortable.

Agree. I actually used to sort of like Fauria until he became a regular on the WEEI 10-2 show. He comes off there to me as a guy who's pretty full of himself. It's clear he sees himself as a really funny, hip guy. However, he's nowhere near as irritating as his partner, Benz. He should go back to Pittsburgh and his beloved Steelers.

Watching the replay right now on NFLN. I think these guys do an OK job. I like Fauria and Chatham a lot. If they want to replace anybody, maybe Roche.

Thought they were better this week, the cut away for Perillo and Hart is completely useless... the half time segment on the Patriots workout room, meeting rooms and other areas was quite good.

I have not seen Jim Koch of Sam Adams get interviewed by Burton on the sideline yet this year.

Probably because I attended both home games & the replay on the NFL network doesn't show that crap.

They use to talk about a home brewing contest as the actual game
Was reduced to 1/16 of the corner
Of the screen....

I remember yelling at the TV "who cares, show the friggen game".

The winner of the home brewing contest, got there beer sold at Gillette.

Isn't that great ?

If it wasn't bad enough that they reduced the size of the screen to
Show that clown. they are also going to be selling Tony's bathtub
Ale for $12 a solo cup.
