But moving it to the one yard line makes the extra point far more exciting than whatever distance they move it back farther from the goal post. You move the extra point marker to the one yard line, you make the extra point more a must watch. Teams are going to go for two far more. There are also chances of fake extra point attempts.

Unless the extra point is a crucial point gain at the end of the game, kicking the extra point for most people don't mean much. Field goal attempts early in games don't mean much to the casual fan. You go for two though and everyone wants to watch.

That does nothing for the original problem though: the extra point itself is automatic.

Even if the extra point was moved to the 1-yard line, I'm not convinced coaches would go for 2.

But if it increases the amount of two point attempts exponentially, who cares? I am sorry, I don't think an extra point is all that more compelling to watch in the first quarter if the likelihood of making it is 99.9% or 85%. But if the go for two, people will watch.

And again, I don't care what makes people want to watch the extra point. I want the extra point to be a meaningful play, and if it's converted 99.6% of the time, it's not meaningful. How many more two pointers do you think they're going to go for? You have a guaranteed point, or a play that is still likely to be under a 50% conversion rate. It's not going to make this sweeping change, and meanwhile a bonus point will require absolutely zero skill.

I'm curious what the playcalls were on 2pt conversion attempts, I feel like every team sells out against the run on them and yet most 2pt conversion attempts I can recall are almost always passes.

I feel like moving them up to the 1 yard line would entice the offense to run the ball more often and result in even fewer converted attempts due to defenses correctly selling out on the play. I'd still kick the extra point unless I needed the 2 for a legitimate reason, same as it is right now.

I don't think Tom Coughlins proposal changes the game any, I think moving the extra point back to the 25-30 yard line (making it a 42-47 yard attempt) would encourage a tougher decision. The kick would be less automatic, still not to the level of 2pt conversion attempts, but it might make an 8pt touchdown more interesting.

Where the kick happens is also irrelevant outside of Vegas lines because a team playing in a blizzard won't be kicking the extra point against a team in California. Both teams will be kicking in the present conditions, and if the conditions change, well hey, guess what, that still happens today. It won't be some new weather phenomenon.

They are doing it because they want people to watch. If they don't feel people will watch, they don't care. The only reason the NFL is even considering this is to keep people at home in their seats so they are less likely to miss commercials.

I personally like Tom Coughlin's idea on the extra point. Move it in to the one-yard line. You would have a lot more two-point attempts, which is one of the most exciting plays in football. You may even see the return of the fullback on NFL rosters.
I wouldn't hate this but, I feel like 2 yards is the perfect length.
I think they should be eliminated.

Give the scoring team an option, walk off the field, TD gets 7 points.

Go for extra point, succeed, get 1 extra point, fail, have 1 point deducted.
(Not being condescending) What problem are we solving here? I feel like we're trying to find a solution to a non existent problem. I love BB and he is a godsend to New England and the game of football but, I whole heartedly disagree with him here. The extra point is NOT automatic. Just ask the man formally known as Ochocinco. Broncos escape when Bengals misplay extra point - The Denver Post
Costs Bengals a playoff spot.
Then we have the Vikings missing one vs the Bears in 09 that cost them the #1 seed and quite possibly a championship (assuming they probably beat the Saints at home, who narrowly beat them in NOLA). And of course the infamous Charlie Brown play that was the length of an extra point...
