It'll be interesting to see how much of these hold true. I wouldn't be shocked to see at least Easley and Dobson get a few reps.

Easley and Dobson won't be playing

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Tiquan Underwood hoping August isn't cruel again | Charlotte Observer

Five times Underwood has attended an NFL training camp, and four times he’s failed to win a spot on the opening-week roster.

It’s inconsistency that has left Underwood – who has previous stops in Jacksonville, New England and Tampa Bay – in jeopardy of being cut for the ninth time in his career.

Underwood, signed to a two-year deal during the offseason to replace Ted Ginn Jr. as the Panthers’ chief deep threat, has been plagued by dropped passes throughout the preseason. Those dropped him on the depth chart behind current No. 4 wideout Brenton Bersin and others, and limited his chances in the exhibitions.

Underwood played 25 offensive snaps and was targeted twice in the first two exhibitions. He caught a 5-yard pass from Joe Webb in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s win against Kansas City. That’s been the extent of his production.

I would have liked to see Dobson play, because i really don't know what his role will be in the offense, especailly with KT looking good.

I would have as well. But if theres any question about his foot health..then keep him out. Still 1 more game to be played

Carolina Panthers Observations: Five things the victory over the Chiefs showed | Charlotte Observer

  1. Cam Newton and the receivers need more time together
  2. Byron Bell has held down the left side capably
  3. The undisciplined play has to stop
  4. This hasn't looked like last year's defense
  5. That said, the corners can tackle

Inside the Panthers: Cam Newton to play first half vs. Patriots

Panthers coach Ron Rivera plans to play Cam Newton and the rest of his starters for the first half of Friday's exhibition at New England.

Rivera said the hope is to keep Newton in for the entire first half against the Patriots, as long as there are no setbacks with the ankle.

The Panthers could be without the starting right side of their offensive line at New England. Right tackle Nate Chandler is out with swelling in his knee, while guard Trai Turner has missed the past two days of practice with a groin injury.

Veteran Garry Williams will replace Chandler. Chris Scott, who started eight games at right guard last year, would step in for Turner, the rookie from LSU.

Other injury notes:

--Rookie free safety Tre Boston returned to practice, but worked mostly on the side. Boston had missed all but one of the previous preseason practices after aggravating a sports hernia.

--Outside linebacker Chase Blackburn remains sidelined with a back injury, but Rivera said surgery has not been discussed.

--Starting cornerback Melvin White was held out after his back stiffened up Wednesday morning.

--Backup offensive lineman Andrew McDonald left the two-hour practice early with apparent heat-related symptoms.
