Boyce x Gallon. Pick one

Gallon. Going by his college games only. Gallon was a superior player. He was the goto WR on his college team. He has great lateral (sp?) speed and changes directions without slowing down. Gallon make the team as KR (reminds me of Ellis Hobbs on KR), and move to slot receiver when someone gets hurt. Watchout for Gallon on KR in the next 2 games.

The title of this thread should be “who should the 53rd spot on the roster go to?”
Not after criticizing for having too many posts about the end of the roster?

Besides I think that, as always, we are talking about the last 5 or 6 players.

But you are correct. It is not Gallon vs. Boyce. The question is whether either of them makes it on the roster for one of the last spots. HOWEVER, since they BOTH won't make the squad, and they both play the same position (I actually would say not) I think it reasonable to ask who we prefer.

I think it stays open for a LB that we pick up on waivers

The LB ranks have been decimated by injury across the NFL. There's nothing out there and teams are not going to be cutting NFL caliber LBs. You can't go light at LB on the roster because there is nothing to go get if you need one off the street.

The question may be whether we keep 6 or 7 linebackers. We can keep 7 if we wish (9 DL, 7LB, 9DB).
It may worth keeping all of Anderson, Fleming, White and Beauharnais. After our top 4, all are special teams positions. However, sometimes we NEED that extra linebacker. After all, we had two major injure last year, and were glad that we had Fletcher, Collins and White.

I presume that we are discussing the mythical 8th WR spot that is waiting for Tyms after 4 weeks.

In any case, the choice is Boyce, who has a chance at the roster because of special teams play and some knowledge of the offense. For me, I would put neither of the 53.

8th? Is Wendell lining up opposite slater?

The New England Patriots have to option to keep a spare linebacker or two on the practice squad.

If they exist, the #6 and #7 LB positions are special teams positions. These positions are active every week and cannot be on the Practice Squad.

I do agree that in addition to any that are on the 53, we would have a couple on the Practice Squad.

The point of the other poster was that there are lots of teams looking to the waiver for linebackers. If that is the case, valuable players would not likely make it to the Practice Squad. Of course, raw players might make it to the Squad.

In college Gallon was the much better player....

And since they've both done nothing in the NFL yet, if I had to choose, it would be Gallon

Boyce for now until Tyms gets off suspension! He is a high draft pick with potential (unrealized to this point). He plays much slower than his reported 40 time.

Remmeber 2013 Draft was a very weak class, not only at WRs, but also in general. People was taken much faster then there grade. Where 2014 Draft was strong, not only at WRs, but also in general. Players went undrafted or in round 7, but had a round 4-5 grade in a normal year. The draft pick difference should be ignored completely in this case.

Neither. Boyce had a drop followed up by a block in the back penalty against the Eagles. Gallon should go to the PS

You sound like one of those wise old sages who wanted to cut Gronk after his fumbles in the Cleveland loss.

A. We won the Cleveland game
B. I have never wanted to cut or trade Gronk
C. I said Neither to Boyce and Gallon because I doubt there is a position for either player. If an additional WR is kept it will be Tyms after he serves his suspension. Boyce struggled last year and the drop, followed by a penalty that negated a rushing TD will be black marks in BB's eyes when evaluating Boyce. Gallon is probably better to be under the radar at this point after missing half the preseason (IMO) and being kept for the practice squad. In a perfect world, I'd like to keep Boyce and Gallon to give them time to develop, but there are talented players at many positions that will likely not make the 53 - Finch & Gray at RB for example. Overall, there may be 60 players that I'd deem NFL caliber that I'd like us to retain, but that's not going to happen.
D. I hope this illuminates my actual opinions for you so that you don't have to make up foolish things and post further speculative posts on what you think I meant.

That's basically my point of view.

Gallon has shown nothing in NFL being hurt until this week, Boyce on the other hand has some tape, a year of experience playing some games and a full off season and pre season games, the problem is that these tapes show nothing. Georges Saint Pierre would say:

So at this point is potential (gallon) vs a guy with expectations going down.

By the way I want Boyce to make the roster, I root for him but I'm not impressed by his performance so far.

I both like, agree, and lmao at this!

If I had to pick specifically between these 2 I'd probably choose Boyce to try and develop him as a kick returner.

Otherwise ... BRIAN TYMS, I CHOOSE YOU!

BB designated you to choose the final WR spot between these 2 players.

Make the call and justify.

Sticking with the original premise that it has to be Boyce vs Gallon. Not who can sneak through waivers to the PS or adding another WR to the mix. Just Boyce vs Gallon, who deserves the spot more:

Gallon. He has more potential IMO. Single season yardage record at Michigan. The place is a pro WR and QB factory. Plus, the word on Boyce is that he's just been going through the motions at camp. BB doesn't tolerate complacency.

Roster spots like this are more about "What can you do for me over the next several years." Not "Are you closer to a finished product right now".

If Hightower was sure to be a standout LB at either LB position and didn't run like he is wearing iron shoes they could keep an extra player at WR. I don't see how Jake Beqette makes the team unless he juices up like Ryan Kerrigan and would be a similar player.

Boyce should stay before Gallon so far. Gyms has had a great couple games high pointing passes but can he also run sharp routes and make similar catches intermediate range in traffic is what would give him the advantage over Boyce. Also how many passes can he snag deep like that against starters. Jeremy could be a starting slot probably. However there are already many slots his size. Boyce I think could be a great slot if he modeled his game and practiced/focused for that position Rather than an outside WR. He could be a great slot/big play threat but he needs to realize he is a slot first and big play WR occasionally from the slot. He doesn't look like he ran a 4.34 but he is faster than he looks running or he wouldn't get open on long passes so often.

How's things at the gym? Any more special insight on players?

That's fair. I was a bit unclear in my snarky little post so I apologize for that. At the same time, despite it's brevity, I don't think you read it word for word. So let me clarify.

A. I was referencing Gronk's rookie season when he had a poor game and a big fumble in a blow-out loss and there were lots of angry posters on here saying lots of things they would eventually regret. That should have been clearer on my part, sorry for the confusion.
B. I didn't say you specifically said those things. Just that it reminded me of similar overreaction.
C. I like Tyms as well over both Gallon and Boyce, but the 4-game suspension means he's a non-factor on day 1. We're not keeping that 53rd roster spot open for 4 weeks, so I don't see what he has to do with the opening day roster. I agree that we have a ton of depth compared to other teams and we won't be able to keep everyone.
D. Just to be clear, I didn't actually speculate on your opinion or make anything up. It was a comparison. But I appreciate the clarification.
