Emphasis on the word "quality."

I'm not sutre i know what you mean. do you mean an all around tight end who's a great blocker and prolific receiver? Because if you do, there aren't many to go around. We had Graham and Watson play a significant amount together for two season and we still got one stone fingers and one who let cornerbacks wrestle balls away from him in the end zone. and that cost two first round picks.

Is Jimmy graham a quality tight end? the guy who let a cb on our team out muscle him on the way to zero catches?

I just don't see a lot of "quality" TEs and never have. I think we might have to settle for some one dimensional TEs to pair with, possibly, the greatest tight end of all time, health permitting.

I posted THAT? Can't find it in THIS thread....

Piss them all off. Can Ninkovrabel play Tight End?

I know you're talking about an emergency 4th OT, but Steve Maneri is unquestionably a TE, not an o-lineman. The attempts to convert him to OT didn't stick (and does this guy look like a lineman to you?)

Well played by patchick - leave it to you to just happen to have the photographic evidence so handy to support your contention! ;)

Now where is the photographic evidence why Jake Bequette is still on the New England Patriots payroll?

Jake has it. That's why he's still on the payroll.

He has some pecks and muscles in that picture that Patchick showed!

Keller is still injured and there is clearly a reason the Pats (or anyone else for that matter) haven't contacted/signed Finley..

""If I quit the game right now, I can take tax-free money, and that's a difficult thing that I'm going through with myself …"

(Jermichael Finely comment in regards to his 10 million dollar insurance policy)

He obviously isn't coming back. It seems as though he hoped that someone would offer him something close to the 10m dollar mark, in terms of guaranteed money. Since that hasn't happened, I'd be surprised if he returned.

You might want to take a look at Denver's TE depth. I could easily see them releasing someone like Tamme, Virgil Green or Jameson Konz..

Also, someone like Joseph Fauria may end up being available..

There are options out there. It's a matter of whether or not BB decides to carry 2TEs with Develin as an "H-back" or 3 real TEs..

I'd take a flyer on Tamme...

If we're going to keep a 3rd TE, it should be one who can actually run a route properly and catch
a pass, not some immobile stiff like Maneri. Gronk & HooHah can handle the blocking duties well
enough; Maneri and/or Justin Jones on the 53 would be a waste of precious roster space.

All these TE that's been brought in just seems like they've been trying to throw poop in the wall, and see (hope) if anyone sticks.

Here's hoping a quality pass catching TE becomes available via cut/ or trade. I'm not asking for the next Jimmy Graham, but a Jacob Tamme could do the trick.

Manieri has a shot at the roster if Cannon is our starting RG. Consider this possibility

OT - Solder, Vollmer, Fleming
OC - Connolly, Stork
OG - Mankins, Cannon, Devey or Kline or Wendell (if Stork isn't ready)

Do we "need" a 9th OL? I would say that the answer is "no" if Stork is ready as the backup center, and we we comfortable with our starting RG.

Yes, sure, we have the option of Manieri as our #4 OT, blocking TE and backup to Hooman.

BTW, this is NOT a good scenario for me. I do not want Cannon starting at RG. I like him a lot as a backup RT, RG and LT.

No, but if Kline or Devey is the starting RG, Stork the backup Center, Cannon could be the first guy off the bench at either OT or OG, leaving a spot for Maneri at TE3. Our interior depth would then be on the PS.

I for one take a stand against the incessant purient exploitation of our male bodies by sexist females

Just consider them the first two guys on the shadow roster

:) It turns out that Brady isn't the only Patriot who does modeling gigs on the side. Who knew?

Perhaps you prefer Maneri's horn-rimmed "Professor Football" look?

Clearly this indicates beyond all possible doubt that we have a super double secret contract with Gonzales.

With fine print that specifies a "No Backsies" clause.

Yes, there is a spot for Manieri as the 3rd TE. If Cannon is a backup, I would rather use Cannon as the 3rd TE than use the roster spot for Manieri.

CONSIDER THE VALUE
of Manieri over Cannon as the 3rd TE (or over Solder). Are there not other players who might provide that value? Can't we better use the roster spot. Personally, I'd rather have the spot OPEN than use it for Manieri. We could then use it on a cut from another team, before or after the "final 53" is determined.

Cannon is slow even for an OL. Has he been used as a TE in the past? I'm curious why you think he'd do well at that job (even assuming it's purely in a blocking role).

Yep, the value question is the same one I arise elsewhere. Given that Cannon is a better blocker than Maneri, does his ability to catch a couple of passes a year or simply keep the defense honest by running routes outweigh the value of Cannon's superior blocking PLUS the value of the alternate 53rd player. I'd think no, but I'm not the coach.

In the few times where we need a blocking "TE", I see us as having the choice of using Develin or an OT. of course, Develin may already be playing FB, so let's just look at OT's.

I would suspect that Solder would probably be the TE and Vollmer and Cannon would be the tackles. I focus on Cannon because the choice is whether to use Manieri in 3 TE sets or whether Cannon is used. I would use Cannon in those sets as one of the OT's, probably with Solder as the TE.

The open question is the value of the 3rd TE since Develin and LaFell can be used in some of the 3rd TE roles. When a blocking 3rd TE is needed, the open question is the incremental value of Solder-Vollmer-Manieri over Vollmer-Cannon-Solder.

As someone pointed out to me, the issue may not affect the active roster, as Fleming may be active (as an emergency backup) if the 3rd TE is to come from the OT's. This may have a side benefit for Fleming, and the team in 2015.
