Le'Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount were arrested for possession of marijuana Wednesday

This article is from last January, but seems timely today:

LeGarrette Blount: Bill Belichick Says Don't Be Stupid About Legal Weed In Colorado | NESN.com | Jan 17, 2014

“It’s a business trip,” the appropriately named Blount said. “Nobody is going to care about that. Bill told us about it. He basically told us, ‘Don’t go out there and be stupid.’ [That’s] really good advice.”

A reporter badgered Belichick during the coach’s news conference Friday about the legality of the drug in Colorado. Belichick, who already are in a surly mood, quickly put an end to the questioning.

“I think we know what the NFL policy is on that,” Belichick said.

He is only likely to sit out for a few games. I don't really think it is that big of a deal.

I thought The going rate is 4 , so that's not a big deal I guess ( ) (only 25% of the season), & if he doesn't have an earlier issue to make it worse ( can't remember thought he had some problem in Tampa)

It's not like he beat his fiance unconscious, then dragged her out of an elevator by her hair. I mean, for that he'd probably get an indefinite suspension. Wait, what? Sigh.

Depending on the circumstance, he might have the charges dropped. Word on the street was that he was a passenger and didn't know the weed was there. I'll personally wait for the thing to play out in court. Apparently the Steelers feel the same way, as he traveled with the team yesterday to Philly for tonight's pre-season game against the Iggles.

I am continuously astounded, not that these fools get buzzed on weed or ****faced on booze, but that they do it while driving/riding in an automobile. I mean wouldn't it be enough to invite some trim over for the eveningt and hang one on at home??? Or, hire a driver??

Yup. To quote Bill Engval:

I don't understand why NFL players are tested for marijuana. It certainly isn't a PED.

The "going rate" for a DUI is ZERO, and the going rate for simple pot possession is ONE game.

The 4 games you are thinking of is in relation to Performance Enhancing Drugs (PEDs). That is for Adderall, amphetamines, etc.

Considering that their 2 options are for the team itself to sit them for the opening game like they previously did with Santonio Holmes, or wait until it plays out in court where they'd be suspended for one game in 2015, it certainly doesn't appear to be anything of a "big deal," no.

It took Dwayne Bowe almost a full year before he was given a one game penalty for pot possession last week.

Agreed. This is the most baffling aspect for me to understand as well.

To take your thought one step further, the NFLPA has a free service for these players to call anytime of the night or day, with no questions asked. There is absolutely no excuse whatsoever for DUIs.

Everything else I can understand. It's part of our culture, part of being young, etc. People smoke weed.

There's a rumor I've heard now from several sources that stated that they were driving around in a Camaro convertible, so it's not like they were attempting to fly under the radar. LOL

When I did weed in college, before i grew bored with it and quit like most people, I might have paid a few bucks for a "nickle bag of MJ. But I'd NEVER, EVER, EVER pay $100,000 or a $1,000,000. for a joint.

You have to be beyond dumb to do so.

They should have beat up and knocked out the police officers before he found the weed and got rid of it. There would have been no weed charge and their punishment would just be a fine or community service or something. With no extra follow up weed testing or anything and maybe not even miss a single game.

And neither of them will miss time this season. Dwayne Bowe got hit with a possession charge last fall and wasn't disciplined until this summer.

Bell was putting other peoples' lives in danger and had no idea he was doing it. That's both totally irresponsible and totally stupid. Blount doesn't appear to have done anything wrong other than smoked a joint. Whatever - scientifically shown to be less unhealthy than drinking or smoking tobacco.
