Le'Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount were arrested for possession of marijuana Wednesday

NFL needs to stop punishing players for marijuana immediately.
You mean it should punish them later?

I guess you might say the Steelers backfield is "up in smoke." I wasn't that "high" on them to begin with anyway, to be "blunt" about it.

these freakin' players get shot up with fentanyl just to get them out of bed on Mondays and Tuesdays post game...but yeah, let's kill them all for smoking freaking weed. The Koch brothers have won...this country has gone insane.

I am kindof wondering how Goodell is going to deal with the medicinal marijuana laws

It'd be interesting to see a player challenge NFL policy on those grounds in a state where it's medicinally allowed - as it wouldn't be hard to find a physician to authorize it for pain management or some other therapeutic use - and thus put Goodell in the position of trying to over rule a doctor.

While it may soothe one's pains, aside from that it's not like we're talking about a performance enhancing drug like ADHD medications (which still should probably be allowed if prescribed)

I agree that will be an interesting battle for the courts to decide.

I do not expect the player to win, however. I would expect the NFL to act as any other employer in the states of Colorado/Washington, who currently have the right to follow Federal law which overrides anything going on in those specific states.

In other words---just because one lives in the states of Colorado/Washington does NOT give them the right to smoke pot under their current work agreements, nor does it override Federal law. I do believe that some employers will decide to become more lax though. I just don't expect the NFL to become one.

I hope Dri Archer gets a lot of work to start the season. Guy is hilariously fast.

From Wikipedia
At the NFL Scouting Combine, Archer ran the 40-yard dash in an Official 4.26 seconds, which is the second fastest time ever recorded (behind Chris Johnson 4.24) since the NFL began electronic timing. His Cbssports.com draft profile lists his 40 yard time as 4.16. This from NFL.com draft profile- "clocked 4.16 second 40 yard dash in 18 steps on one official handheld combine watch, tying Calvin Johnson's NFL Combine record for fewest steps". He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers as the 97th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

The fans here in PIT are obviously very high on Dri Archer, and feel that he can be their answer to a 3rd down RB who's able to offer something on KOR, runs, and passes from the backfield.

He's obviously got a ton of talent, and I'd expect him to be used as a replacement to Bell in situations that don't warrant the use of Blount. Either way, I think he'll get a lot of opportunities this year.

I believe that CIN will take a small step backwards to 8-8 or so, while PIT and BAL will battle for the usual 9-7 or 10-6 spot that the division winner and WC spot normally gets. Just my opinion. Much like last year, I feel that it's still a fairly even division.

I don't blame them. This guy blow the doors off Tavon Austin. If he can have anything close to the vision Austin has, he could be a Vereen on fast forward type player. That's obviously just hype at this point, but potential is there. He and Travis Kelce (TE KC) are my favorite non-Patriot up-and-comers.

In defense of those elitist, money-hording, global warming-denying, de facto political kickback-taking, oligarchical oil barons; they really don't bear any responsibility for the war on drugs and, in fact, support legalization of marijuana.

Is this a first offense for Blunt, or was he in the "program" already?? If so the suspension could be significant... didn't Tyms get 4 games for prescribed, but not declared, adderall??

Agree. The NFL shouldn't be punishing them, but I think the team should. Weed is a performance degrader. They're hurting their performance and thus hurting the team by being weedheads.

The laws are slowly changing... edging towards a semblance of practicality and reason.

I'm not a politician, and I don't have the time or energy to FIGHT for my beliefs in regards to this issue. And so I didn't make my post from a literal "let's do it!" standpoint, but I strongly disagree with punishing anyone for marijuana, whether in the NFL or a grocery clerk.

I understand if you get in trouble for a DUI, or if you get in legal trouble... and it is neither time or place to argue about it's medical merits or anything of the sort, but if a player smokes too much and it effects his performance, he will be cut anyways.

The "if it's a law, it's the law." mentality is totally baffling to me from citizens in a country that calls itself "free."

Anyways, sorry for this rant, because my posts turned out to be about the general topic of marijuana law rather than this particular issue with Bell and Blount.

We are not free to break the law, that is not freedom that is anarchy.

For "adderall" yes. But for all we know it might as well have been marijuana for Tyms. The NFL doesn't say what players get busted for. So players usually say that they took Adderall but that they didn't know that the NFL needed the prescribtion.

Hilarious. Although those days are past me now, I have no problem with it. I never got baked, thru on a hooded mask and held up a bank. Maybe stole the occasional bag of Doritos or drove 20 in a 35 due to paranoia, but that's was about the extent of my criminal exploits back in the day.

DUI's have a history of being deadly, and combining the 2 intoxicants and getting behind the wheel I in no way condone. The real question is, with all this goddam money your making, can't you hire an effing limo driver? I've known plenty and they wouldn't rat you out for puffing one up.

I wonder why they were pulled over.

unless your name is Obama...

(sorry, had to be done)

What might be interesting is if they only found one bag in the car. In most cases if the police found contraband (guns/drugs/money) in a car and no one in the car says, "yeah, that's mine" they turn around and arrest everyone in the car. So if Bell test positive for pot (they took his blood for a DUI check), he might take the rap for both of them and would leave Blount free and clear (legally).

Now if Bell is negative, then if I'm the Steelers GM, I have one of them cop to it, so I don't lose of them for a game.
