Sealver Siliga, Chris Jones on the mend from respective sprains

I never thought Chris Jones' injury was going to be that bad. If you watch the play, he was lucky in that his foot wasn't planted and he could slide it out out of the way before it got real damage. If his leg was planted, he might have had a tear or worse.

Siliga was back on the field today doing rehab work off to the side. Jones is still MIA so I am surprised that they bundled them together.

It's easy. One, Sealver, has the use of his wheels to keep in shape. The other, Chris, doesn't.

I read the entire article I just do not agree with it. Siliga is on the field and Jones is not. That is an indication to me that Siliga is further along in his recovery. He would be getting treatment like Jones if he wasn't and would not be at practice. That is the process.

Quality quality depth that will assist in keeping Wilfork and Kelly fresh and healthy.

Two young, improving DT's with different skill sets. Both will be needed in the trenches this year.

Siliga is on the field because his injury was hand-related. Therefore he can still jog around and do conditioning work.

Jones injury is leg-related, therefore he isn't on the field.

I think Siliga is closer to a return. End of story, if you do not great, but I really am not going argue back and forth over something so minor.

The article says that it sounds like Jones is closer to returning but no timetable is set.
I'm not sure how you can argue what impression the reporter got from TALKING TO THE PLAYERS when you don't know what the conversation was.

As an aside, if you have ever sprained a wrist, or tendons in the wrist which it most likely is, you would realize you can do many things much earlier than using the wrist unless you want to aggravate the injury.
An ankle injury is of course quite different.

New England Patriots roster bubble watch: Joe Vellano a forgotten candidate in defensive tackle race | masslive.com

It was trial by fire. In glimpses, No. 72 revealed pass-rush and run-clogging ability, but he also revealed vulnerabilities against the grain of more imposing anchors.

There were times where he was halted at the line of scrimmage while those around him forged past it. And there were also times where he was driven out of rush lanes while those around him bulled into them.

At the time, though, attrition had taken its toll on the interior of the Patriots' defensive line. Vellano was one of the few who was able to outlast it.

"Just long in general," Vellano said of his first NFL season. "You just got to keep up with your body. Big guys out there. You just got to stay up with everything and do all your work off the field so you can be as best you can on the field."

Vellano finished the regular season on the field, having played in all 16 games and started eight. He registered 672 snaps -- 11th-most in the defense, according to Pro Football Focus -- along with 54 tackles and two sacks.

His presence in the rotation faded as the year wore on, however, as fellow rookie Chris Jones and third-year journeyman Sealver Siliga established themselves.
