Ridley trade value?

In the defense of the person who made this thread let me say this.

(Also, Ridley fumbled 4 times last year on 178 carries I believe. I am aware some sites say 3 but others say 4 and I am confident that number is correct going by memory). So 1 fumble every 44.5 attempts.

That is simply too much and you can not have it.

The question is this. If Ridley is going to continue to fumble the ball at this rate do you want him out there over other RBs we could get that you believe will fumble less.

Is the benefit of his ability worth the extra amount of fumbles he will give you (and his fumble/carry is among the highest in the NFL). I don't think it is. So if we are to assume the fumbling will not be fixed you may as well trade him and get anything you can back for him. If you assume it can be fixed obviously you keep him.

Right now it is too early to say if it can or can not be fixed but that semi-fumble last game (which might or might not be one) did not give me confidence and we are right to question him in this way going by his previous body of work.

Last year Tampa traded Blount, how did that work out for them?

The Patriots make the smart moves, not the stupid ones.

If you look through the archives,
You will see I liked the Blount trade and predicted he would be better
Than Bolden from day one of the trade. Blount over Bolden "surprise...surprise", was not the popular choice on these boards at the time.

I don't think the number of fumbles is as much the problem as the type of fumble.

Ridley always seems to fumble at
The worst time.

Fumbling in the 4th quarter with a
21 point lead after a wicked hit is one thing.Fumbling by having someone punch the ball out against Denver while down 7, and having it returned for a touchdown is far worse.

They both count as 1 fumble.

@BobDigital he had 3 rushing fumbles and his 4th fumble was the dump off pass vs. Pitt where Polamalu stripped.

I recall BB kind of giving Rid a pass on this saying Troy made an amazing play on the ball.

so yes you are correct 4 total fumbles, 3 rushing

Trade ridley for spiller
Thought i read somewhere that bills prob wont re sign him next year.

Ah yes. That clears up why the sites had different accounts.

The only way you trade Ridley is if you either get a quality TE or a first round pick. If not no way you trade him.

I know there are a lot of fans
Here who will defend Ridley
To the end.

The same bunch defended Maroney & tried to defend the
Patriots drafting Ron Brace.
...

The only reason that followers of this board defended Brace was because I called him a flop early on. Ridley and Brace are not in the same category.

Yes Ridley has good trade value. But I would never get rid of him that would be an awful idea.

His "fumbling issues" are really blown out of proportion.

Some were at pretty bad times but then again - there's rarely a good/ok time to fumble unless it's a blow out and it's unlikely to affect the game,

I was advocating a trade a long time ago, with still time to look for a replacement, now it's not the time, the season begins in 3 weeks

I was right there with you.... Brace had to be the worst defensive lineman I can remember.

I remember the 1st time I seen him in a Pats uniform, he got blown 7 yards back on
the 1st play. If they did not waste a 2nd round pick on him, he would have been a early
cut in year one.

Yet... People in this forum, always defended him.

I like Ridley and how he runs. Have since I saw film on him after the draft but I would not be shocked if he was cut or traded. I don't think it would happen but I won't be shocked. BB values ball security above all else and if he thinks someone can get the job done, I would not be shocked that he would cut bait.

A lot of fans are still spoiled from the Law Firm days.

If you're talking strictly in terms of holding onto the ball, I agree. As @joepatsfan pointed out in his post, backed by facts, Ridley's fumbling issues are a bit overrated and he was mostly reliable in 2012. You'd have to include BB in the spoiled list too though because he's the one that benches Ridley immediately after each fumble. I'm hoping Ridley gets every chance to remain the feature back. Vereen, although I have high hopes for him being a potent weapon, I don't think is built for more than around 10-15 touches per game and Bolden hasn't shown a whole lot to me ever since his injuries and suspension in the latter part of his rookie season. Still have no idea what we have in the rookies.

Before we start calling BB names, we should recall that we are not seeing what players do every day in practice. Belichick's decisions are obviously based on more than game stats or what we are able to see on game day. Having said that, BB was well aware of Ridley's ball security issue when he let Blount walk, so I think the plan is for Ridley to see a lot of carries this season. He has to uphold his end of the bargain too course.

Stevan Ridley got the first handoff among Patriots running backs in 11-on-11s, despite his fumble on Friday night.

Maroney was defended because he started out very well. Why he failed after that start is probably the result of a combination of things, not all of which are his ability.

Brace was defended because the team needed another big fatty. Everyone knew he'd been second fiddle to Raji in college, so it's not as if many people were expecting the next Wilfork.

Neither was a terrible pick from a need standpoint.

This thread stinks

I wouldn't be surprised if he was traded but I doubt anyone offers enough to make it worth doing. You'll get a 4th at best. I'd rather get one more cheap year off him before both sides go their separate ways.

As the OP I clearly a fan of poetic delivery:

Stevan fumbles again
Though not as much as you think.
Still makes the roster.
