So.. are we really sticking with what we have at TE?

Yes, if Gronk and Hooman are healthy, we are fine. Develin and/or Hooman can be hbacks. Also, Solder or Cannon can be the blocking 3rd TE.

However, Gronk and Hooman are not healthy.
You make it sound like there is an unlimited supply of tight ends currently on the market.

Currently?????? Currently, Belichick is doing all he can. We should stop making believe that the current situation is some surprise crisis that Belichick is dealing with.

My complaint is that we didn't sign 2 JAG veteran TE's within a couple of weeks of the draft, before minicamp.

I think what we're saying if we want to run a 2-TE set we need the personnel, and those days are long gone

You have done no research whatsoever. You have provided no plausible alternatives. All you do is *****.

The New England Patriots re-signed Justin Jones. Live with the reality of the situation.
Tampa Bay would be a good example.

Timothy Wright.
Austin Seferian-Jenkins.
Brandon Myers.

Decent chance they don't keep all three of those TE's. I feel as though Myers/Wright could be fighting for a spot. Either one of Myers/Wright would intrigue me.

I think it's just as much about depth as it is wanting more 2 TE sets.

If Gronkowski goes down, the TE position is shot, as we saw last season. I think some of the concern is coming from those who wonder why Belichick didn't learn from the past.

Of course we have to take into account an expected improvement at the WR position unlike last year, so that would likely help to offset some of the loss of Gronk too.

Now that is something encouraging. The fact that Brady appears to have much more chemistry with the likes of Thompkins/Edelman/Amendola this year helps in many ways. We will be able to drown out the lack of a receiving TE a little better thanks to that fact.

I guess Matt Mulligan was not worth the time or the money.

If the New England Patriots wanted to improve the depth at the tight end position, the New England Patriots had ample opportunity in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Apparently, you watched a different draft than the rest of us.

So what has Jemea Thomas or Jeremy Gallon done in training camp that has you doing cartwheels?

Why would any team only keep two tight ends when the typical standard is three?

Nothing at all. I'm not even sure Gallon will make the Practice Squad.

What has any one else's 7th rounder done that cause you to think that they were better in belichick's eyes than Hooman and Williams?

Yes, the team had lots of chances to draft players. I thought that you were discussing players with a reasonable shot at making the team.

Says who? FWIW Luke Stocker is also on the roster, and is considered more of a blocking TE. They may keep Stocker as the third and cut one of Wright/Stocker. We've seen surprising cuts like these before, don't act like they never happen.

I'd especially be interested in Wright, who just broke out last season.

I think all the TE hand wringing is over rated. Think about it. When Gronk is on the field, the Pats have the best TE in the league on the field. If he's not we will have a decent blocking alternative. Who cares if we don't have a great "move TE". Between all the WR's and RB's we have plenty of competent receivers to spread the field.

Before the Pats brought the 2 TE offense to the forefront in 2010, no other team in the league was running anything close to it. Now 4 years later, the rest of the of the league has caught up.....AND the Pats are now ready to move on to the next thing.

In 2001 the Pats TE group caught 20 passes COMBINED. Daniel Graham only topped 400 yds once in his career and only had more than 4 TD's once in his career. This offense CAN be effective without a plethora of TE receivers, even last year. We all keep on forgetting that despite all the injuries and inexperience we had at the receiver positions, the Pats were the 3rd highest scoring offense in the league, scoring only 1 point less than #2

Although it seems as though many list him in their mock 53's, I'm still not convinced that DJ Williams is our TE3 option.

It could be possible that it's Gronk, Hooman, and Devlin as the TE3/H-back option, at least initially.

Wright's resume is rather interesting though.

Converted from WR to TE last year during the offseason. Plus came from Rutgers, and that always helps around here..

Tim Wright---was he the guy who really came on out of nowhere last year?

EDIT: Nevermind, I looked it up. He is the guy I was thinking of. Apparently, the Bucs are considering the use of him at the WR3 spot.
