"Deserving" and "getting" a roster spot are not equivalent. Even so, we might as well review who pretty clearly deserves one.

K/P/LS -- Gostowski and Allen, of course. But neither LS, although one will probably stick due to the absence of well-practiced alternatives.

QB -- All three. That said, while I don't expect Mallett to be trimmed for roster space, it could happen.

RB -- Vereen, White, Ridley, Bolden. A 4th-round rookie who isn't a total screw-up deserves a spot. Bolden does too, for his solid if uninspired play, but that doesn't mean he'll get one.

FB -- Develin. And he'll get one, in part for the depth he offers at TE and RB.

TE -- Gronk, probably Hooman. And so far that's all.

WR -- Smurf 1, Smurf 2, Lafell, Dobson, Slater, Thompkins (as per Brady's recent quote), not Boyce (but he could still earn one). Tyms could certainly prove he deserves one, but he needs to produce against stronger opposition to solidify the claim.

OL -- Solder, Mankins, Connolly, Wendell (yes), Vollmer, Cannon, Stork, Fleming. Probably Kline and Devey as well, but I'm mind-reading the coaches on that without basing it on my own independent opinion. Yes, that's 10 guys, which is a lot to actually make the team.

CB -- Revis, Browner, Dennard, Arrington, Ryan, Butler. Duh.

S -- McCourty, Harmon (based on last year's performance), maybe Ebner (based on STs), maybe Wilson (if he picks up where he left off after the injury), but not Chung (gotta cover passes more reliably). No opinion on Davis.

LB -- Mayo, Collins, Hightower. The backups are still in prove-it mode.

DT -- Wilfork, Kelly and Easley, obviously. Also Siliga, Johnson Edit: Make that Jones and maybe Vellano based on last season.

DE -- Jones, Ninkovich. The backups are still in prove-it mode.

I'd be interested to know why you have Ebner over Chung. Chung is the better STer and the better Safety.

I have chung over ebner at the moment.

Boyce is on the outside looking in, with Tyms taking his spot

So far no rookie RB's make the team for me.

Chung is the better STer and the better Safety.

That Chung is the better safety is easy to agree, even if it stretches the usual connotation of "better". But on what do you base better STer?

for me, i think Ridley is out. We can have another season of fumbles and he does not look like he has fixed the problem. Talented runner but if he continues to put the ball on the turf then there is no place for him on the Patriots IMO

I have a little gnawing sixth sense feeling that Ridley could end up being the "surprise veteran cut" that nobody saw coming.

I think LaFell needs to be worried.

White has to make the team, there is no question. And I think Finch does too for KR/PR. To make room, I cut Wendell, I cut one of Kline/Devey.

Keep Chung, keep Vellano. Siliga and Jones better get healthy fast, or they will see the IR

Keep Will Smith. Belichick loves his elite veterans now diminished in their twilight.

I would rather have finch than Bolden ... especially if he can be trained to field punts.
I think it's way too risky having Edelman out there on special teams.

not even white, they would all pass through waivers and get some time on the ps

I really don't think 4th-round picks get cut or pass through waivers if they are cut, unless they are major, major screw-ups.

So who starts at RB? You really think bill is going to cut ridley and let a rookie like white start? Since when does bill trust rookie RBs?

I think Ridley being on a rookie contract makes it quite unlikely he is cut or even traded before the season starts.

That said, a few more fumbles and he might be gone mid-year, so I'm now leaning toward Bolden being kept.

James Anderson LB... pretty sure he will make it.

He hasn't shown enough to say he has earned a spot yet. Buchanan has IMO, although that's largely based on ST play and pass rush skills. He needs to improve his run D.
