Tight end Shuffle: Hartsock, Maneri, Terrence Miller in; Jones, Watson, RB Houston out

The following might or might not have Stabilized the position, but they at least might have Improved it:

Gator Hoskins
Anthony Denham
Marcel Jensen
Jake Murphy
Mike Flacco
Jordan Najvar
Xavier Grimble
Trey Burton
Blake Annen
Jake Pederson

And I still don't know why Justin Jones & Asa Watson were so quickly given the heave-ho in favor of
Maneri, Hartsock & Terrence MIller.

What a collection of desperate wishes, never-weres and never-willbes; some of which have the inconvenient fact that they are on contract with other teams... Dream on draftnik extraordinaire...

Why?
He blocked very well. That's his job.
I think he makes the team.

He completely whiffed on more than one occasion last night. Vinnie Curry & Brandon Graham
owned him (and Marcus Cannon & Chris Barker too).

Are these just names you made up because I've never heard of any of them

We saw it differently

I agree.

Manieri did very well in his first game. He was probably not perfect in executing every blocking assignment. That is likely true for all the linemen.

Manieri is a good choice as the 4th OT and 3rd (blocking) TE. The alternative is to use Cannon or Solder in that role.

Gronk and Hooman are too fragile not to have a blocking back on the roster.

The loser in this scenario is Fleming, who we would waive and hope to place and keep on the Practice Squad.

I dont think its a big lose for Fleming to be inactive on the ps vs inactive on the 53.

I'd be surprised if Fleming doesn't make the final cut, especially in favor of Maneri.

Doubt Fleming would clear waiver, plus he's backup, if Cannon starts at OG.

Fleming would likely not even be active. If a tackle were injured, Cannon would play RT, and someone else would move to RG. To be clear, even if Cannon starts at RG (very unlikely IMHO), Cannon would still be our best backup OT by far.

well, except for Fleming's bank account..
Considering we would be light on the OL and Fleming would be a heartbeat away, I would assume, as he has done in the past, BB will pay him as if he were on the 53.

Sure Cannon would be best option week 1 or 2 - But if a tackle were injured in lets say week 12, the story might be otherwise?

Will Fleming pass Cannon as an OT by having great practices?

Holy smokes. The good news is that you'll have another shot at plenty of these guys once they're cut from their current teams.

- Blake Annen is on every Eagles writer's "most likely to be gone in the first cutdown" list.
- Xavier Grimble is languishing at the bottom of the Giants' "wide-open TE competition." For perspective, the leaders of the competition are Larry Donnell and Daniel Fells.
- Jordan Navjar has been so underwhelming that the Cowboys brought in -- guess who? -- Asa Watson to take some of his practice snaps.
- Projections have the Falcons keeping only 2 TEs rather than waste a roster spot on the likes of Jake Pederson.
- The only mention I can find of Anthony Denham's camp performance is one article that refers to him as "one of the longest of the longshots" on the Texans' roster.

Then there are the guys like Burton and Hoskins who realistically play a different position. I think that leaves only Marcel Jensen and Jake Murphy as in-line TEs likely to even make a roster, let alone outplay Hooman.

Meanwhile on the veteran front, Owen Daniels has been demonstrating why Houston chose not to retain his services. It's being widely reported that he "has nothing left," and John Harbaugh is holding him out of practices to "rest his legs."

It's ugly out there.

No, but by moveing Cannon Pats need a new OG als, stability is always good. Fleming mayby aint as good as Cannon, but a better option then the NeXT Gaurd?

Kline was the backup RG and LG last year. He started some games. Some think that he is the most likely starter at RG. If Cannon starts, then Kline would be the Game Day backup and be ready to play RG at any point. If Kline starts, then Cannon is the backup OT and backup RG.

With our top 7 active linemen, there is lots of flexibility.

What we are discussing is our linemen. One backup interior linemen will be inactive (Devey or Stork).
Our final lineman (if there is one) would presumably be an OT. The question being discussed is how to use this roster spot. Some would use it on a backup TE (TBD). Some would use it on an OT (Fleming). Some would use it on a hybrid RT/TE (Manieri). Some would go with 8 OL's and 2 TE's and use the position(s) elsewhere.

People forget that on entering the draft the Pats had an OK Offensive line that was good enough to go to three consecutive AFCCGs. But it had sprung leaks in pass blocking, and the tackle situation was much better than the interior situation, plus the depth was almost exclusively PS types.

They wanted to improve C and RG, while adding depth. They traded down, to position to draft two OLs to develop. Stork at C, and Fleming at G/RT were the targets. Fleming was meant to either be an eventual RG, or add depth to tackle so as to release Cannon to be the RG.

Halapio was a pure afterthought, who fell to them and was deemed too good to ignore. He has demonstrated no unexpected greatness, and is purely a power G prospect for eventual future use.

One or two of Scar's PS projects, Josh Kline and maybe Devey seems to have matured enough to compete.

Stork and Flemming were targetted and drafted in the mid-rounds. I think the brain trust planned on grooming them for 2015, but perhaps as depth in 2014. Don't forget Connoly is in his early 30s and may not age well. However, Connoly is winning the C job back from Wendell, while tough guy Wendell competes with him, meanwhile Stork learns.

Kline is pushing to start at RG, and Fleming is providing the swing tackle depth to free Cannon, to move elsewhere, or be the "supersub" everywhere.

The Pats have an unexpected surplus of competent or merely good players to accompany the very good trio of Stars in Mankins, Vollmer and still developing Solder.

I still see no reason to alter that approach
