Rookie wideout Tyms runs toward future - SFGate

At 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, he possesses prototypical size for a pro wide receiver and eye-popping athleticism. At Florida A&M's pro day, he had a 38.5-inch vertical jump, which would have ranked tied for fifth among wide receivers at the NFL combine. His time in the 20-yard shuttle (3.93 seconds) would have tied for second and his 40-yard-dash clocking (4.40) would have ranked third.

38.5 vertical
4.40 40-yard dash
3.93 20-yard shuttle
22 bench press reps

22 reps is as good as some Defensive Ends and Linebackers. The article doesn't mention his 225lbs bench press, but the video of it is here:

Easy to say he looks like he belongs.

Surprised he couldn't stick with the 3 other teams that had him. Still want to see more out of the kid to see what he is all about. He does seem to have some pretty good chemistry here in New England.

So how was he undrafted. Did he have off field run ins with the law or is he very inexperienced or something. What's the deal with him. Did you happen to catch his 3cone or college stats.

From what i remember he was very inexperienced and only played a little ball. He has a bunch of upside and just needs more knowledge of the game.

It happens. Some players "put it all together" and reach their peaks at different times.

Look at guys like James Harrison and Cameron Wake.

Before we get too excited about him, we need to see if there is chemistry between Brady and Tyms, and I have yet to see that happen. So far he has good rapport with Garo and Mallett, but if you can't develop it with the big guy, might as well go fishing.

Agreed. I want to see them give Tyms A LOT of time with the starters in Week 3 before I get too excited.

So its more importent to see if the 6th wr, WHO happens to miss the first 4 weeks, haveing connection with Brady? I would prefer Brady getting more snaps with the first 4 or 5.

You realize that more than one WR can be on the field at the same time, right?

He played 1 year of high school ball, went to a community college with no football, then walked on, but didn't play much, then had one decent season in college with 38 receptions. He also had a horrific childhood bouncing in and out of foster care, so he had a long way to go to learn and convince coaches he was of stable characte, responsible etc.

Doesn't surprise me at all he didn't stick at his first 2-3 stops. He needed to learn the game and how to be a professional and it seems (we hope) he has been up to the task.

Might be an emotional problem head case (there are tons) or a driven self starter who has used his hard knocks as fuel (there is some evidence). Reportedly, with one year of high school ball only (more a basketball player) he kept harassing the Florida A&M officials until they let him workout and successfully walked on. You've got to love that attitude, at least.

Defensive End, Jadeveon Clowney #1 pick overall this year only had 21 bench press reps. Tyms had 22

I've never had a binky before, but this dude is getting awfully close. Love his story, performance and make up.

That corner TD reminds me of Dobson. I get that same kind look from both of them.

I figured Ebner was your binky. Props for staying open minded.:D

Seriously, though, I am rooting for this kid, he's got some cajones.

Rooting for young guys like him to succeed is what makes summer football a fun, unique change of pace from in-season with the tension of every game's win/loss meaning so much
