After not practicing all week, linebacker Jerod Mayo was not present; he did report to the facility in the morning, as all of the players did. Mayo was not at the building on Thursday. It is unclear why Mayo was not on the field this week, though it is not believed to be injury-related.

I don't know - is that more or less concerning?

He was at the facility on Friday - so it's not obviously a family issue that kept him away.
Maybe there was a private issue earlier that kept him away until Friday, and since he didn't practice he didn't suit up? Only pre-season, after all.

Interesting. Maybe he's in the dog house for some unknown infraction? That seems to be about the only thing I can think of at the moment.

Mayo was quoted on July 24th that his wife was 7 months pregnant.

I truly hope she and their child is in good health.

Give Mayo a break, if his wife is closer to giving birth, then it is a great excuse to not be here for the preseason games. We need him for the regular season, not the preseason!
