If the WR rich eagles cut him, should we pick him up. I know we have a lot of young WRs trying to make this team. As well as Lafell who came from the same draft. Benn was a far superior raw talent to Lafell as well as a big strong fast WR who could beat the defense in every way and was known for his ability to snag passes that are way off target easily. He was considered Dez Bryant similar talent and specimen but raw. Before his injury in Tampa he was really coming on and began outplaying Mike Williams considerably

I know we have a lot of WRs but would it be a good idea to carry an extra WR or even 2 til a legit complete WR consistently steps up. Maybe until one does you can't have enough on your roster with skill set to become outside and complete WR who can win any way such as getting deep with speed/snatching passes deep as well as consistently catch intermediate passes in the 15-20 yard range.

No. Why would you even suggest this scrub? Who ever considered him similar talent to Dez Bryant too? He was a 2nd round pick, if he was "Dez Bryant talent" he would have been a top 5 pick, Bryant only fell because he's a head case. If he was outplaying Williams then why did Tampa trade him too? C'mon now Gymrat...

59 receptions since 2010, what a star! No thank you, stick with what's on the roster.

Why would the Pats waste a roster spot on Benn?

Maybe because he has really, really low body fat?

Most non lineman in the nfl do.

How many times does the offense have to stall in the playoffs before it is realized you can't win a championship with slots alone

No. If he was going to develop into anything he would have already.

Yup. Sucks that we don't have any tall receivers on the team. I mean if you don't count Dobson, Gronkowski, Thompkins and LaFell that is. :D

If it were 2 years ago then I would fully agree with you that we need more big receivers. But we kind of have that now.

Two years ago I'd have welcomed back Moss with open arms.

You are fighting the Last years War and perhaps a non-existent problem.

The Pats have never wasted CAP space seeking Probowl players at WR. True they once had a legitimate HOF player, but many thought he was Over the HIll and on the downside when we got him, inexpensively. All the other front line WRs, including Welker, going back to 2000, were merely good or competent, at best. That is what Belichick wants, or rather what the CAP allows him to budget for.

Its a waste of CAP space better reserved for truly important positions like DL, LB and CB on Defense; and QB, LOT, and maybe TE on Offense. Belichick knows it is a TEAM game, and he must allocate his resources to make his CAP dollars stretch as far as possible.

It is worth paying for Depth at any one of those positions, especially the QB position.

Right now his WRs corps, now blooded, may be better and deeper, than any he has fielded while coaching here.

Non slot receivers on the patriots
Gronk
Dobson
Lafell
Thompkins
Tyms
All better than Benn

Edelman and amendola aren't even limited to the slot

Now being realistic I doubt he gets cut. They have been raving about him in phillys camp. And reslistically I was referring to bringing him in for a tryout only if he lit it up in preseason. If people are talking of keeping Tyms when even coaching knows little about him, how would Benn be wasting a roster spot. Of course he would have to light it up the next couple of games before considering him.

I said ESTABLISHED CONSISTENT non slot WRs. If Kenbrell or Dobson break out and are consistent then yes, there would be no need to carry an extra WR.

When did Benn become an "established consistent" receiver? Adding a scrub like him would be beyond pointless. The current receivers are more than fine.

Insanity. It's taken OTAs and weeks of camp to DEVELOP & evaluate our crop of WR candidates and all except maybe Boyce are seemingly progressing. So somehow AFTER this guy gets cut, who you say probably won't be cut, and he passes waivers we all of a sudden bring him in teach him an admittedly COMPLEX system and CUT one of our WRs prematurely just so we can evaluate this bozo.

Not. Gonna. Happen.

Every WR that starts occasionally catches deeper passes. Neither has ever averaged over 10 ypc. Most rational fans call that a slot WR.

Conveniently ignoring the list of receivers who have flashed ability to play on this team and don't carry the label slot receiver. Where did Edelman line up most of the time last year?

So far Benn has 852 yards and 5 TDs in his career. I would not really call that "established consistent". I don't understand how you can call Benn consistent but not say that LaFell is, when he is just as big and has 600 yards in each of his last 3 seasons.

Dobson had more yards last year in 12 games than Benn has had in any of his years. What makes Benn so much more established than LaFell who has several hundred yards more each season than Benn or Dobson who has more yards in his first season than Benn has in any of his seasons? Or Thompkins who also has more yards in his first year than Benn has had in any year?

When did I say Benn was established. I said it maybe its a good idea to take on an extra WR prospect til Kenbrell or somebody establishes himself.

But you know what fine, your right it was a terrible idea. I don't really care if they try out Benn or not. Just a toying idea really. I wasted enough time on that subject. I'm late now meeting old friends I have not talked to in several years for Apps and ****tails. Sorry to bring bit up, later.

You should check your numbers. Both have averaged over 10.
"Slot" is a position not a conclusion from statistics.
